MIL informed us that she would give us a sum of money for xmas (very very kind and much appreciated) and we had to buy ourselves a tumble drier (again much appreciated)

But - that was also including DS's xmas pressie.....so that is what he is getting - a third of a tumble drier

Am i being a miserable cow?

ah well perhaps not such a good deal. What if you didn't want a tumble dryer? In laws eh....

popsycal · 09/12/2004 14:29

Am I the only person who doesn't think this gift is overwhelmingly generous?? I think all this 'you must pay the other half' and 'you must do it before X date' is not particularly nice and very controlling? As for it being ds's 'present' well, really. Would it kill them to buy him something for a fiver? Harrrumph.

You're welcome! Grin

I agree with aloha.

Yep, I think it's pretty grim too....

hercyulelog · 09/12/2004 14:52

How bizarre!

I would be tempted to say we dont need a tumble dryer although that would be cutting off your nose to spite your face.

popsycal · 09/12/2004 14:54

She told dh that if she was fed up of seeing wet washing hanging everywhere then we must be!!!

Maybe I ought to have been clearer from the outset!
lol

You see popsycal, the more you reveal the more i'm sure mumsnet opinion is with you!

Think I'd have told her not to bother coming round! BTW i have battles with DH who insists on NOT using tumble-dryer and leaving wet clothes hanging from bannisters, radiators etc.

spacedonkey · 09/12/2004 15:14

you'll be able to hang your washing up to dry on all the strings attached to their so-called gift

popsycal · 09/12/2004 15:14

pmsl spacedonkey!

LOL Spacedonkey!
Presents with hidden agendas always annoy me. My dad giving my mum a wallpapering table is a classic example Smile

elliott · 09/12/2004 15:49

well, in my defence, you didn't say anything about having to pay half originally (that would annoy me). And I thought (not having looked into it) that a tumble dryer would cost about £250-£300. So yes that DID seem pretty generous.

But you have brought to mind that last year all dh's relatives decided that they should club together to get us both a breadmaker as a joint present. For some reason I took the hump at this (I know I know, in hindsight its not unreasonable, its just I didn't really want one, couldn't imagine using it - and in fact I haven't - and I thought it would just clutter up the rather small kitchen). But as I said before, relationships with in laws are funny things. All the quirky things you normally get in a family but without the licence to say what you really mean about them!!

popsycal · 09/12/2004 20:21

sorry elliot
:)
I was just spouting rubbish at the start!

Just to update.....

We bought the tumble drier today......between us, we received a whole load of christmas money from many very generous relatives so the drier didn't cost us a penny! Being delivered on Friday!

(Hotpoint aquarius vented sensor drier if you are interested )
