Band aid film, too many tears...........................

I watched the Band Aid thing on telly last night. They showed the original film they showed in the 80's of starving kids in Ethiopia. All day now I have been blinking back tears thinking of the little girl trying to breast feed from her mum but there was nothing there.

I just try to imagine how I would feel if my dd was crying from hunger and I couldn't feed her.

Anyway have sent an email to all my family etc to say for Xmas I would like a donation sent to a charity instead of a present for me.

The only thing was I wasn't sure which charity to pick. I put Unicef in the end but.............who knows which are the really good charities for Africa, namely the Sudan crisis I guess.

It IS awful isn't it? Such a terrible image. Maybe we could have a mumsnet collection. Any ideas for appropriate charities that work in these areas?

I felt so the same, was crying quite a bit. I can't afford to buy all my relatives xmas presents this year, so am instead buying them all a copy of the single. Okay so it may not be the best present in the world but the money will go somewhere where it is needed more. xx

Thats quite a good idea, I might do that too. Christmas is so ridiculous isn't it and I just don't wash enough for all the bubble bath I get!

Well Save the Children are - you can donate specifically to the Sudan Crisis or to Save the Children general work. Also Unicef work out there, but not sure who else.

I don't like the single much but the lyrics are painfully poignant. Except of course that most of them are Muslims so probably don't care that it is Christmas - I always thought that at the time. But point is they do care that they are hungry, and whatever it takes to get an issue onto the countries agenda is good. And for us Xmas is always a time for thinking of those less well off.

The picture on the cd box and on the online link is a killer. Sad Click, cry, and donate.

Isn't it. I think I've got a broken heart today. Just keep thinking how would I feel if my baby was crying from hunger and I had nothing to give her.

But did you see the girl who survived? In the film she looked as though she had only a short time to live, but she is absolutely gorgeous now. I was in floods last night at the film. Remember blubbing dreadfully when it was shown during Live Aid (yes, I am that old Wink), but I think having children now makes it so much more poignant.

Ditto FestiveFrex
I was blubbing too
