Am I being unreasonable

So I walk to work daily, drop the youngest at nursery and the eldest at breakfast club and continue to work! It’s about 45 mins in total.
Husband drives to work and collects both the kids from out of school club and nursery.
With it due to snow tomorrow I’ve asked if he could pick me up from work too but he’s said that the roads will be too bad (bus route, and also 300 people leave where I work at the same time, most drive), to get me too.
Am I being unreasonable for asking him to pick me up too rather than walk the normal 35 mins home in the snow!

YANBU.
Yes the traffic will be busy if there are 300 odd staff, but sitting in a nice warm car in a bit of traffic is surely preferable to his DW walking home in the snow!

GNR2022 · 08/03/2023 22:16

I’d rather walk the 2 miles home in the snow wrapped up than sit in a load of traffic!

Nimbostratus100 · 08/03/2023 22:18

I think he is right to limit driving to what is necessary. Just make sure you have sensible walking boots on

OriGanOver · 08/03/2023 22:19

I think he's being selfish tbh. Why would you not want to take care of your wife!

Brightblueskysunshine · 08/03/2023 22:24

Op can you try taking a cab? Uber or any local ones ? Besides you would want the kids to be picked up on time. Alternatively you can ask him to pick you up after the kids if it snows a lot more tomorrow.

Mumtobeebee · 09/03/2023 07:16

That’s what I asked, if he could get the kids and then come and get me. Our you fears nursery is on the same road I work on.
Our route home is a bus route so gritted and we would turn right and go the other way round, although we only live in a tiny town (1 set of traffic lights) so the traffic is light anyway as most of the cars turn left to leave the town!
We don’t have taxis that you can call on the day they normally have to be booked days or weeks advance. The work bus that leaves doesn’t stop outside our house it takes the workers back to the 3 near city’s and the other buses run every 30 mins.
I’m normally one of the first ones out as I don’t have to scan my face at the minute to end my work shift as mine is broken, so I don’t have to wait in the que of people leaving.

Not our your fears but ‘our youngests’. It’s about 2 min drive down the road.

We don’t have traffic like in a city, it’s a little town with 1 set of traffic lights. So it would take about 5 mins to drive home.

I'm with him. It's not far. Everybody should always be walking where possible it destination is only 2 miles away.

UsingChangeofName · 09/03/2023 07:41

If 300 people are leaving at once, and it is only a small town, then loads of people must be going your way. Why not ask one of them if you can jump in if you really think driving in snow will be preferable to walking which is very unlikely. I'd rather the dc were safely home asap than trying to do extra miles in a car in the worst driving conditions.

Mumtobeebee · 09/03/2023 07:43

The nursery is on the same road so he has to drive past where I work anyway. I don’t know anyone at work yet, so don’t know anyone that goes my way! He picked me up on Friday as he was in a good mood!

CoffeeBeansGalore · 09/03/2023 07:45

Could he wait whilst you walk to the nursery?

frazzledasarock · 09/03/2023 07:49

He’s going to drive past where you work and isn’t going to pick you up?

he picks you up if he’s in a good mood?

my DH would be the one suggesting he pick me up, he’d be doing it every day regardless. I can’t imagine him letting me walk home after a tiring day at work especially if he’s going to be driving by my workplace anyway.

RandomMess · 09/03/2023 09:00

Can he pick you up somewhere on your route home so shorter for you and him not snarled up in the traffic?

It's horrible picking up/dropping off when it's chaotic with parking and cars at peak times like that.

namechange3394 · 09/03/2023 09:02

Why don't you walk to nursery and get in the car there?

Mumtobeebee · 09/03/2023 19:57

He was in foul mood after a bad day at work yesterday! To be fair he has been outside all day!
It’s when the factory kick out the admin staff all go at once, but it only a little town do no traffic! More a steady stream of cars going in different directions! It’s a very small town we live in, with 1 supermarket so traffic is never ever heavy!
Think he must’ve realised how unreasonable he was being anyway as he was there when I got out of work! Normally I enjoy the walk home, as it gives me time to decompress, just not in miserable weather! Also it means I get home and he’s started tea, unloaded the dishwasher, done pick ups and normally sorted the washing!
He got the youngest and waited in the waiting bay for 10 mins with the youngest! So he must’ve realised what an unreasonable tool he was being!
