Do songs hit harder the older you get?

I've just watched Pink on Graham Norton and her song really made me think about trusting other people. Mainly allowing myself falling into the trust of others and trusting other people. I started to think about other songs I've heard on the radio/spotify/apple music over the past few weeks and realised that quite a few songs have hit home and have hit me harder emotionally now than they did when I was younger. Is this age or am I just over think songs because I'm an emotional mess?? X

I don't know. I heard this song on the radio a couple of weeks after my mum died and it seemed like she was sending me a message, I had to pull over as I was driving and I just sobbed my eyes out.

What a beautiful song, I understand you feel your mum was sending you a message and I think she was too xxx this is what I mean about songs hitting harder, it's like people are sending us a message or certain songs make us reflect at certain times of our lives xx

No, it's not about age. Children turn you into an emotional wreck

Music and songs used to be certainly a rollercoaster, now my emotions are mostly numb to the tunes, but I still like the songs, and tunes but certainly not to the emotional level that I used to. Plus I usually watch YouTube so it's got eg TV shows mixed with the songs so sometimes it's more watching the show with the various clips and songs

Actually @bluebeardswife7 it is about age. I don't have kids but songs hit me much harder because I have the emotional literacy to engage with them. When I was younger I simply couldn't relate to some of the emotions

Good question
I always found songs hit hard but now, even more so. I used to be able to do chores with background music but now, pretty much any song, I get well into it.

I don't have kids. I'm 46.

there was a violinist playing Sia's Chandelier at the station, I almost cried. The song means a lot to me but I normally find buskers annoying, lol.

I think you have hit the nail on the head there - I didn't understand the words in songs when I was younger. I just sang them and enjoyed them. I think now words in songs can really make you think or take you to emotional times in life. Obviously there are days I just listen to songs and they don't bother me - I'm not a walking emotional wreak crying at every song I hear!!!

That song always hits me, one song I do have to change the radio when I hear! Xx
