How does the government help with housing costs?

Hi, I'm not a mother nor am I an expecting mother, but I am planning on getting pregnant in a few years.

Me and my partner privately rent, and when we want to have kids, we will still be privately renting. We move around a lot so won't be able to get council housing. Between us we earn about 50k a year.

I have no idea what help is out there. We live in London currently but will move outside (Berkshire/Buckinghamshire/Witshire) when we settle down, and we know these areas are expensive to rent in, but these areas are near our families.

So my question is, will the government help us with rent if when we choose to have children? Or is that not how it works?

Hope this is the right thread to post on!

Thank you in advance

On an income of 50k ( roughly the same as me), I don't think so. I get child benefit which is £87 every 4 weeks.

But rents in Berkshire and Wiltshire aren't that high for a two bedroom flat or small house. You should be fine.

I've just checked and 2 beds in Newbury or Tilehurst start at about £1k.
