I had mine thru the post today and i think its a great idea, i hate these people who park there and havent got children/not with them. i also hate it when people park there and are not getting the kids out they just send sum one in to get their fags etc, i think these parking permits are a great idea, i think asda have started it too!!! if you havent had one or not a member go to www.tesco.com/babyclub its all free and you get loads of vouchers etc thru!!

LazyLinePainterJane · 07/02/2008 13:08

igglepiggles · 07/02/2008 13:21

i didnt know they even done it untill it came thru the post 2night. i think its a really good idea tho cos it ll stop losers parking there that aint entitled to, ROCK ON TESCO.

Tesco have provided these parking permits on request for many years now.
Not quite sure what you expect will change.

Phoenix · 07/02/2008 13:27

They've done them for years, no one uses them.

hana · 07/02/2008 13:27

you don't need one to part there
I never have

although dont bother with m and b parking spaces anymore, just park in far corner and walk. plenty of room in the corners to open door for car seats. if I have to go that is.

mostly get groceries delivered, far better than taking small children to tescos etc etc

branflake81 · 07/02/2008 14:27

Oh because God forbid your kids would actually have to WALK anywhere...

Shhhh · 07/02/2008 14:51

branflake, its not about kids walking anywhere..do you have lo's.? I guess so being on mn.

I use m&b purely because they tend to be located near to trolly access, im not keen on parking and leaving the lo's while I go hunting for a trolly. Sometimes its not always an option to park near a trolly prak and plus you have limited space unless you park away from everyone like hana but then you are back to trolly issue.

I agree with other about the permits, we have had 'em for ages and it never works. Security are not interested in anyone parking in them that doesn't have a lo, they just say "oh we can't stop 'em" .

Tesco once again, bothered about business...

Our local Asda on the other hand.......they are actually clamping and charging anyone who shouldn't be in a m&b and disabled space and is..imo thats the way forward.

glassofwhite · 07/02/2008 15:49

We had a permit for the old car, never bothered to get one for new car and no one ever stops us parking there without one.

If I you see some one getting in/out of a car without a child in sight whilst using a m&b space, just ask politely "wheres your child?",they wont be able to answer you.
Unfortunatly for one bloke I wasnt quite so polite,PMT and a toddler testing my patience brought it on.(I didnt swear, honest)

igglepiggles · 07/02/2008 15:52

my ds is 9months so he s heavy to carry a distance and i have bad hips got pins etc in em so the mother and baby is very usful but id never park there without having ds with me

OP posts:
glassofwhite · 07/02/2008 15:59

No,I never would park there without the LOs igglepiggles either.
My collegues cant understand why I dont use them if im on my own,"but you have carseats, so you can get away with using them if you are on your own"

igglepiggles · 07/02/2008 16:02

the point of them is to help people, not to be a convenience when you havent got the LO's with you!!
i makes me lol
well done all those who use them properly!!!

The Tesco parking "permit" is just an excuse to get your details so they can market at you.

I frown on people parking in P&T spaces without a lo but it's not illegal. I would have no problem with someone parking there with kids but no "permit".

excuse to get your details? - mine came with the baby club mag - they already have my details.
I did notice that it said to put your child's 3rd birthday as the expiry date, it used to be 5th. So I have binned it and left the old one in the car.

MsHighwater · 07/02/2008 22:19

The parking "permit" is one of the "benefits" of the baby club and an inducement to you to join - and give them your details so they can send you vouchers for money off overpriced crap. IMHO.

rosealbie · 07/02/2008 22:21

I have only ever seen one car parked with a 'permit' at my local Tesco in the parent and child spaces

I don't have one but park there anyway - with my dc's of course!

BigBadMouse · 07/02/2008 22:25

I had a permit, and they have never sent me anything in the post other than my clubcard stuff (which is pointless as I don't shop there)

evenhope · 07/02/2008 22:26

Went to Asda yesterday and they now have the notices up- must have child under 12 (wtf?) in car seat or booster (how do they know if you have taken your 0-9 months seat into the shop with you?)

For the first time ever there were several P&T spaces free.

igglepiggles · 08/02/2008 11:17

i didnt mean that i would frown upon anyone with out a permit lol i was just trying to say that maybe it is the way foward to stop people who shouldnt be parking there, i didnt know how long thesepermits had been around cos my ds is only 9months and my first!! altho when he was first born i forgot that i could use P&T parking lol!!!

We have 4 young DCs (eldest nearly 5) and pg with number 5, (due next month).
Have to say we've only ever used a M&B space about three times in total, never seem to be able to find one empty.

I do like the extra space they give you to load/unload, not fussed about being close to the store although of course it can make life easier when you have so many DCs with little/no road sense.

Tesco sent me a pass ages ago, they sent one to my mum as well (grandparents with the kids in the car can use the space too), but neither of us shop at Tesco so bit pointless really.

I once lost my temper with a man parking in a M&B space in Ikea with no sign of a child, (it was very hot, my 4 DCs were screaming and we'd been driving around for ages trying to find a space when he cut in front). Of course he just said the baby was inside with mother, I have no idea if true or not but opened my mouth before thinking.
