Mine have quoted 90 quids for the part and 80 labour and 60 for another part and 55labour total time taken to do the job is less than 30mins. Does that sound about right to you all?

Well if it’s only 30 minutes and you’ve found the part - what’s stopping you?

You pay professionals to do the joy without error. Crack on!

DressingForRevenge · 20/01/2023 13:01

Did it take him time/petrol to go and collect the part he needed - or did he need to have a look to see what he needed? Or did it pop through his letterbox from the plumbing fairies?

Megamind · 20/01/2023 13:02

What I was trying to ask was is that a reasonable charge they would ask for? Or am I being overcharged

Are you sure that exact same item was available at the trade counter today at £20?

notthe1Parrot · 20/01/2023 13:04

Our plumber charges £90 per hour plus VAT.

Obviously parts are extra.

Outta London borough.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 20/01/2023 13:04

Depends where you are & what the job is.
Sounds a bit overpriced for my area.

But you are paying for their experience, travel cost & time as well as the part.

Megamind · 20/01/2023 13:04

@FourTeaFallOut yes. And free delivery on all the major outlets

Then I think the mark-up on parts is over-egged. The labour price is what it is.

Comefromaway · 20/01/2023 13:08

Our rate is £40 per hour plus VAT but there is a minimum call out charge of 2 hours. Materials mark up is 25%.

Every area is likely to be different - ours is £50 per hour or part of. Parts are charged at retail price - the discount he gets at screw fix is his ‘profit’ on the part. Happy to pay as I’m likely to get the slightly wrong sized part which will cost me more in time to go back and get the right bit for the plumber to do the job. Or I end up with a garage full of random plumbing bits which are of no use to us and have collectively cost far more than them getting the plumber to do the job in the first place (looking at you Dh).
