Which chores to your children do?

I m minded to start this after finding myself cleaning my almost 12yr-old's shoes. My dh thought it was appalling he wasn t doing it himself. But, as with all these things, you get sick of nagging so you do it yourself.

So quick summary of ages of children and chores they have to do.

Am thinking of making beds every day, setting table, emptying dish washer, feeding animals to doing some shopping and doing their own washing etc.

DS's agesd 7 and 5

make their own beds every day
set the table
clear their dishes away
tidy their own toys away
help out with sorting out washing to be put away (they join in, not asked to do this)

if they do this they get a reward star, if they don't they don't

at the end of the week stars = £ which they can then choose how they spend, either all at once or save up for something bigger

p.s. I do their shoes couldn't take the black shoe polish being everywhere

oh and have supervised DS1 ironing and they both join in cooking too

DSs aged 12 and 14:

Feed cat if they're first up
Put washing in laundry bin
Tidy rooms
Bit of hoovering/cleaning
Empty bathroom bins
Sort recycling
Lay table
Go to papershop alone
Come with me to supermarket sometimes when I walk down so they can help carry bags home
They cook sometimes - with help

They don't empty dishwasher but they do put their own plates in.
They don't clean shoes except for scraping mud off rugby boots.

They do quite a bit for my mum - mow her (large) lawn, clear gutters, put wheelie bins out, dig garden etc.

BroccoliSpears · 04/02/2008 16:18

My 20 month old sets the table every evening .

elfsmum · 04/02/2008 17:22

have just been under both beds (cabinet type) and thier idea of tidying toys is not mine

mine - everything sorted by subject/theme

theirs - everything in one pile

ah well they'll learn
