Despite my best efforts my car is mouldy, we are getting a new one soon, recommend me a decent 7 seater that I can hose down once a week.

We have had our Multipla for 3 years now. I love it, it has been good to use until this week when the gear box and something else rattley went wrong with it.

I give it a good clear out once a month; seats out , hoover etc but the endless damp weather, mud and the odd hot cross bun have resulted in a light covering of green fluff on all the fabric (the seat fabric is weird in a multi pla, soft and not very wipeable).

Plans for new car in spring.
Need 6+ seats, good sized boots and not too fancy an interior because 4 boys and mucky DH just trash it. Any recommendations greatly appreciated.

Just like to add that we are not getting a new car just because this one is mouldy We need a bigger boot.

.sorry just thought it was funny you wanted another car as its mouldy!but then read second post lol !maybe we could buy your mouldy car to go with our mouldy house!

TheHonEnid · 04/02/2008 11:44

lol our multipla is going a bit mouldy too - it smells stale - I think the seals are not good

and agree the boot is a bit shite

nortynamechanger · 04/02/2008 11:44

Get leather seats next time!

And go for the extra mat option, then the carpet on the floor stays clean (ish) and you can remove the mats and hose off - I had a spilt smoothie on one, it grew really long fur .

I'm just trading in my (interior) trashed XC90 for a new one, with a promise to my DH to 'look after the next one better'

MegaLegs · 04/02/2008 11:45

I think th emould from my house may have spread to the car.

Its a sort of mildew, it's also on the pushchair. It does come off with the hoover but then I must be spewing mould spores into the air and just spreading it about.

change the pollen filter thingy

MegaLegs · 04/02/2008 11:48

Enid - our doorseals are shite. I spend my life pushing them back on or driving along with them flapping in the wind.

nnc - I always start with good intentions, but the car always ends up trashed.

At the momnet we are all squeezing into a Vauxhall Vectra coutesy car - the only good thing I can say about it is that someone has left The Best of the Jam in the CD player

Pollen filter thing in car or hoover?

TheHonEnid · 04/02/2008 11:52

i think there is one in the car

but I have AC in my pla

MegaLegs · 04/02/2008 12:11

We have AC but there is also one of those buttons that I am unsure of the function of, a pic of a car with arrows going around it. I think it recirculates the air in the car and stops fresh air coming in so eventually we all hyperventilate. I have never touched it.

Not yet and I'm not sure if we'll get it now as he is walking. Is it from age 3?

NomDePlume · 04/02/2008 12:17

the recirculation button is handy when you are sat in traffic behind a stinky old banger that's chuffing all manner of horrible stuff out of the back.

always have the AC on

it helps to ddry out the car

MegaLegs · 04/02/2008 12:33

I wonder when his DLA comes up for review? Actually, am I meant to inform them of his progress (although at the moment that means writing to them every few weeks ) It will be interesting to see what happens.

We looked into the mobility thing a few months ago. He doesn't get anything for mobility at the moment, just middle rate for personal care.

Come on, tell me about your 7 seaters with big boots and wipeable seats.

I need new car like OPs too.

Am toying with maybe getting a Disco 3 as need to pull trailers and I live in mud-central and local roads flood a lot so it needs to be high ride. But I won't have much boot space if I use the back seats will I?

lailasmum · 05/02/2008 20:18

would definitely recommend buying removable car seat covers that you can bung in the washing machine. Halfords do a myriad of different ones. I like mine because they zip apart in appropriate places so I can leave them on in my estate with various combos of seats collapsed or not at all and don't have to remove them. You can just wash them when needed.

MegaLegs · 05/02/2008 20:22

DoN I think we might be heading down that route - same problem here, mud, puddles up to our ankles and trailer.

Good plan lailasmum . Then I can whip them off when I offer yummy mummy friends a lift rather than making them sit on a layer of fluff.

AC on is bad for people with coughs/colds. I think leather seats would be the best bet for you tbh. My car has never gone mouldy. Must tell DH on you, to make me look better!

nortynamechanger · 06/02/2008 11:59

DoN

I have XC90 - I need to pull boxes/trailers, suffer serious mud and live below sea level (yes really, according to my GPS) so flooding on a reg basis.

Can even get my 4 wheel off-roader pram in back with all 7 seats up.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 06/02/2008 22:11

XC90 - Volvo yes? I did have a bit of a look at some online. Will definitely go and have a good look. If I can get our Great Dane or a couple of bales of woodshavings in whilst the DCs are onboard, then I'll be a happy woman!
