Hi everyone. My hair is currently different shades of brown (with the darkest being very dark- too dark for me). This is all as a result of my hair being dyed at a local salon. I don’t know whether it wasn’t mixed or just not applied correctly.

I‘ve now been to a few salons for a consultation as it’s really getting me down and I want to get it right. It could also be quite expensive to fix. The thing is each one has said something different and I just wondered if any of you had faced a similar problem or had any suggestions (I don’t have a clue about colouring etc).

-The 1st salon suggested a colour remover, then applying a new colour all over
-The 2nd suggested a bleach wash, then applying a new colour all over
-The 3rd said do not use a colour remover as hair will go really orange and be difficult to remove warm tones afterwards. She suggested just applying a new slightly lighter brown colour all over
-The 4th said don’t have a bleach wash as hair won’t lighten evenly with it already being uneven, so then the new colour will still be uneven. She suggested applying a very slightly lighter brown at the roots and waiting for the very dark to grow out.

Help!

The 3rd is wrong as a lighter colour will not lighten the darker hair.

I'd go with the colour remover probably. Or cut your hair shorter to get rid of most of the darker hair and then lighten it.

Thanks very much for your reply. Yes, I was surprised when she said about just colouring over as I’d read that wouldn’t work. I’m scared about the orange hair thing with the remover. Do you mean lighten by getting highlights? X

It only goes orange as every time you dye your hair there is a bit of lightener in the dye that takes a bit of your natural colour away but leaves you with the red tones. A colour remover takes you back to the hair colour created by those bleaching actions. How dark do you want your hair to be?

Might have to colour remove and then bleach to get it lighter than orange. What end result do you want?

I see. Thank you for explaining. Ideally I’d like a light or mid brown. Anything than the very dark I currently have as it drains me, and the greys start to show in about 3 weeks, so it’s just not sustainable.
