have no idea what to get him, and I've got mum a really good present so dad's has to be amazing too. help me please!

He likes gadgets but will be annoyed if I spend a lot of money, whiskey is out, that's what I got him last year, and he doesn't really have any obvious hobbies. He's a GP if that helps.

Any ideas?

My Dad's favourite present I ever got him was an cockrel shaped egg timer that crowed every time it went off. I got it for him because he kept burning his food and forgetting to do things and he told me it worked a treat. Cost £3.99
.
Sure that's not what you'll get you Dad but your thread was about to disappear off the horizon so I thought I'd bump it, as they say.

Something gadgety and musical? Like a DAB radio? Or one of those printers that print photos straight from memory sticks?
Or am I way over budget here?

aBeanInaManger · 02/12/2004 19:15

digital radio would be perfect, he loves listening to mine, but he gets no signal up in Glencoe. I think I'm leaning towards a corkscrew and wine, or one of those beer bottle openers that attaches to the wall. Anyone else have any bright ideas? I thought maybe a palm pilot but not sure if he would be able to work it!

Good presents I have bought my dad in the past:
a barometer
a barbecue (got my bro and sis to club tog, but that was for his b'day in August)
put his cine film onto video (another joint present with bro and sis)
Oh dear, my mind has gone blank!!! That says everything about buying presents for dads, doesn't it?
How about a wine cooler or a thing you put round wine bottles to stop the wine dripping (and in our family thus prevent my mother tearing a strip of my dad for spilling red wine on best tablecloth). Or a vacuum pump for wine bottles.

If he is up in Glencoe, has he got one of those satelite tracker things? I was going to get one for dh until I saw the price!

GlitterGrommit · 03/12/2004 18:20

I got my dad a wonderful World history book - £65 in the shops but £15 from Thebookpeople.co.uk

helsi · 03/12/2004 18:24

CD's, video's/DVD's, DVD player (if he will use it), a weekend in a hotel somewhere with his wife in the spring (something to look forward to), theatre/concert tickets?
