A friend is looking for a place to have her dd's first birthday party in January. Her house is too small so she needs to hire somewhere, but doesn't want all the grandmas, great aunts etc sitting around in a cold hall on plastic chairs. Does anyone know of anywhere that would be more "homely", suitable for about 20 people and fairly close to the centre of Bristol?

Well I had my babys first birthday party at Easton Leisure Centre. They have a room you can hire, you have to take your own food though, and we paid for the babies to go swimming after. They also have a new softplay system and the room they hire out has recently been redecorated.

Thanks WCL. Thing is, dd will be the only baby there. It's mostly aunts, uncles and a few older kids, so we wanted somewhere for the oldies to have a cup of tea and a chat and the kids to play their own games, rather than somewhere "baby friendly". I'd be grateful for any other ideas anyone has.

I don't have any ideas but you could try looking on netmums in Bristol, go to www.netmums.co.uk and look for the Bristol site.

OK, I had an inspired moment! What about:

Aunties can have a brew and a chat, older kids can make something arty farty and one year old can have handprints done to commemorate the day?

You're a genius WCL - cheers!
And thanks for the tip about netmums, WWW.
