but have one friend who is serene, clever, fun, in a great realtionship, preg and bound to be a brill mum, and beautiful... i wish i could be like her

DH, cause he's put up with so much serious crap from me over the past 24 years (well actually, the first ten years or so) and we're still here.

Madonna - passionate about her career, her family and still looks stunning

MummyToSteven · 29/11/2004 21:03

yeah used to be Madonna for me vict17 - before her family days, just the way that she got herself to fame and fortune through her own talent/efforts etc.

vict17 · 29/11/2004 21:04

who is it now MTS if you don't mind me asking?

Gobbledigook · 29/11/2004 21:05

Hmm, it's a bit cliched but I have to say my parents. I'm not saying they are perfect but they started off with absolutely nothing and through hard work and being very shrewd they've ended up really quite well off.

In addition to that, they have somehow managed to bring up 3 kids who are all bright, intelligent and successful () and who all get on really well with each other and them! How amazing to still have your children like going on hols with you when they are 30-odd.

My parents are fab and I admire them so much.

In fact, so much so that I'm buying their house!!!

Twiglett · 29/11/2004 21:25

mmm a bit cliched I know but I'll have to say Gobbledigook's parent

MummyToSteven · 29/11/2004 21:27

embarassingly I can't remember

i was just thinking a day or two ago about someone that had inspired me and now I can't remember!!! it'll come to me some point soon - so when you see this thread revived in a fortnight you'll know why . have a feeling it's someone who has done something impressive in the healthcare field

KBear · 29/11/2004 21:33

My Mum. She is so brave in that she has overcome the things that scared her most. She hated the water and learnt to swim, she learnt to drive in her 50's and she just admits she is scared and does things anyway. Not major achievements you might think but I think overcoming your fears is inspirational.

...and she helps me out so much I hope I can do the same for my kids.

JanH · 29/11/2004 21:35

KBear, those are really major achievements, tell her well done from me!

KBear · 29/11/2004 21:43

Thanks JanH, I think so. My mum is great and I tell her all the time. A woman of such little confidence though and she is amazing! She keeps me going that's for sure. She also tells me what I great job I do as mum, what with working too and running around with the kids. She is my own personal ego-boost when I feel like I am useless!!!

Gobbledigook · 29/11/2004 22:03

LOL Twiglett!!

Carla · 29/11/2004 22:22

A clean house - cos I want one.

JoolsToo · 29/11/2004 22:37

Oh my lickle girl - thanks! you're pretty fabulous too and I'm really proud of you! (and my dear ds's too)

From the outside world - inspirational women for me are ALL of the suffragettes (it makes me mad when women don't vote after all those girls went through!) and my other inspirational woman will probably meet with a groan from most of you but its Maggie Thatcher - all I can say is 'what a woman' - sure she had her faults but who hasn't?

essbee - you're probably right I think I 'admire' more than am 'inspired' by too!

paolosgirl · 29/11/2004 22:45

Total cliche, but my mum is my inspiration. She's one of life's copers, just gets on and does things. She is very tolerant, never complains, and really is the glue that holds our family together. She didn't have much growing up, and through circumstance and lack of money, didn't have the chance to go to uni, although she would have loved to. Yep, she's one in a million - I wish I was more like her.
