Argos are selling Sir Killalot remote control toy for half price, now £39.99. Still not exactly a bargain but my DS has been desperate for it for 18 months now and he may finally get his wish this Christmas. R

Thanks for the tip. Another one for the christmas list. Haven't yet decided what items on the list ds will get - he certainly can't have them all, the house and our bank balance isn't big enough.

Looks like your ds will have a great christmas surprise, Rhiannon. Don't like to worry you, but will you need to buy two of these toys, though? you can hardly have a fight with just the one....

Mine is getting a snake, Tigermoth! His Christmas list will comprise snake, tank, heat pad, water bowl and a small log for it to hide under.

He has been mentioning it occasionally, just in passing, ever since one of those Bug Men came to his school a couple of years ago - we have pictures of him with a snake round his neck and a tarantula on his shirt (not both at once of course) - he looks thrilled in them!

Anyway they have a very pretty and friendly corn snake at the local pet shop and he/she/it and DS seemed to bond - how soft does that sound? I think it will be arriving before Christmas though...he's going to call it Ken.

So if anybody else's children start wanting a snake, just ask me how ours is going before you make your minds up!

Ohh Janh you're so brave!

and also sensible.... no worries that you'll be nagging your son to take the snake for walkies or change its litter tray. I've told my son he has no pets unless he can look after them himself. Are snakes low maintenance?

How will you smuggle ken into the house beforehand? at least you can guarantee Ken won't make a noise.

Tigermoth, they are very low maintenance - you have to scoop the poop out but the bedding stuff absorbs the wees and dries out again - the worst thing is going to be the feeding - only twice a week but it has to have baby mice...ugh. We saw it being fed at the pet shop today - the mouse (defrosted frozen one!) gets dangled by its tail and the snake strikes at it and eats it headfirst.
Horribly fascinating to watch!

Ken will be arriving before Christmas. Maybe I will take him out and wrap him up on Christmas Eve!
