Got this dreadful email from a good friend and it reminds me of an 'Urban Myth' . I doubt if it's anything more than utter bollox dreamt up by an idiot......

however, I thought I would show & tell

Guys please pass this along to all the women you know.....

This actually happened a few weeks ago right here in England . It was

early evening and a young lady stopped to get petrol.

She filled her tank and walked into the store to pay for her petrol.
The
cashier told her 'Don't pay for your petrol yet.....walk

around the store for a while and act as if you're picking up some other

things to buy.

A man just got into the back of your car. I've called the police and

they're on their way'.

When the police arrived, they found the man in the back seat of the
girl's
car and asked him what he was doing. He replied,

he was joining a gang and the initiation to join is to kidnap a woman
and
bring her back to the gang to be raped by every

member of the gang. If the woman was still alive by the time they
finish
with her then they let her go.

According to the police that night, there is a new gang forming here

originating from London. The scary part of this is because

the guy didn't have a weapon on him. The police could only charge him
with
trespassing.... He's back on the street and free to try again.

Please be aware of what's going on around you and for your family and

friends. LADIES you or one of your family and friends could be

the next victim.

Please forward this on to everyone you know. Please do not discard this

message it is very important that everyone knows what is

happening.

Please be careful when leaving your vehicle and make sure it is ALWAYS

Locked to prevent this from happening to you.

Me too - not been able to get it out my head.
I did read to the bottom where they showed how it had been played with which calmed me somewhat but then they do link to a real case too. (Still nasty but nowhere near as creepy)

let's start some Gentlemen ones.
"Gentlemen
Beware if you like to stay out for a pint or two when you should be at home helping your good lady put the kids to bed.. The police have issued this urgent warning following a spate of attacks etc etc etc. with really poor style/grammar..

colditz · 25/01/2008 20:50

what, you mean they didn't sterilise her to prevent her carrying a pregnancy which could be used to identify her attackers?

And (and this is the bit I am having trouble with) if I don't forward this, parts of my body won't mysteriously fall off and my children won't be abducted and I won't^ get 16 years bad luch, 10 if I forward it to only those who welcome such treasures of reliable information?

That's absurd, I don't believe a word of it, then!

onebatmother · 25/01/2008 21:33

lol sterilized colditz

I love the idea that the bloke sitting in the back of the car confessed to the coppers his intent to gang-rape, and 'they could only charge him with trespass'.

Agree about the mysogyny. I could never work out why these things did the rounds, and when someone sends them on to me, they usually add - 'It's probably not true, but it's a good reminder to be safe and vigilant'.

To which the only sensible response is 'Why didn't you just send me a personal e-mail reminding me to be safe and vigilant, then?'

Do these people go up to old folk pretending to be muggers and scare the crap out of them to remind them to be vigilant?

LadyCellophane · 25/01/2008 21:53

lol at SueBaroo!

I got the same email as the OP too

MrsSeanSlater · 25/01/2008 21:57

I've had this one too. Forwarded by my mother who's taken in by every urban myth that crosses her path.
ignore.

onebatmother · 25/01/2008 22:00

What I need is a polite way of telling my forwarding friend to stop.

whomovedmychocolate · 25/01/2008 22:03

Certain Mumsnetters have been known to forward this sort of tosh on Facebook too

I now automatically age any message a week so I don't have to worry unduly about getting mad before the follow up 'sorry it was a hoax' message.

Teuch · 25/01/2008 22:06

OMG, I come on MN so I donthave to read these in my inbox....

bolleaux!!

Chuffinnora · 25/01/2008 22:16

The only shocking thing I have read here is that MNers have mothers with email addresses??? and they forward things???? Do you live in the future? My mother can't even answer her phone without "I think it rang. Oh wait she's still there Hello??"

onebatmother · 25/01/2008 23:10

Chuffin

dillinger · 27/01/2008 16:19

Chuffin - reminds me of when my mil rang dp on her mobile not long after she'd got it

dp - 'why are you shouting?'

his mum - 'we're in blackpool'
