dd has been going to sleep later and later

it was 9pm last night , she gets up at 7am

she doesn't seem tired - she is all ready for bed and pj-ed up by 7.30pm, but wants to go on computer/ read/ piss about - I think 9 is too late though it doesn't seem to be affecting her

I want to impose a lights out, mainly because she is pestering me the whole time - if she read her books quietly then it would be fine, but it is "Mummy I can't read this word" or "Mummy my hand hurts" or "Mummy can I have my friend X to stay/ eat chocolate in the morning/ have school dinners for an extra day/ whatever other cock she has thought of"

I want some evening to myself thanks very much - what time is reasonable to black her out?

dd1(8) 7-8
dd2 (6) sleeps 11-7 (put in her room by 8 though)I say lights out at 9

Enid · 22/01/2008 10:04

dd1, 8, 7-7 always been a massive veg-out
dd2, 5, 8.00 - 7 - she would stay up later if I let her - stays up reading for ages and writing in bed, I read to her then she is allowed half an hour then lights out, I promise to come back and check on her after 10 mins, deal with all the minor worries and questions then Am Strict.

dd3, 1, 7-7

My DS is 6 but will be 7 next month. Until very recently he was in bed by about 7.15 and lights out would be 7.30-7.40 ish depending on school reading book and what we are reading to him. We have now introduced him being allowed to read himself afterwards, moved bathtime forward a bit (to accommodate tired little sister) so it is now about 7.45, but can be a bit later like on Mondays when it is Beavers until 7.15. He never gets up before 7 but this morning I had to wake him at 7.10.

DD(7) and DS(3) both go to bed at 7:30 and I have to wake DD up at 7to get ready for school, as soon as DS hears we are all up he gets up too.

At 7 I would say 8pm is a decent time to say lights out, we've actually been thinking about putting DD to bed earlier because she is never awake when she has to get up and is sluggish in the morning so possibly still tired!

I just think that I want to be in bed by about 10:30-11 and I need time to chill and relax once they're in bed so 9pm would be too late for me, I don't normally sit down til about 9ish anyway once I've sorted uniforms out for the next day and packed lunches etc.

dd is nearly 7.

She goes to bed between 7.30 and 8pm (I occasionally find her still reading at nearly 9).

I have to wake her up every morning at 7.30 and have done since she started school (making up for the previous 4 years).

How about listening to a story tape?

mysonsmummy · 22/01/2008 10:32

ds 6 is in bed at 8pm latest on school nights. although bit later at weekends. he wakes up by himself at 8am for school. i feel he is so much better if he wakes himself up. i am very lucky that if he goes to bed late at night then he does sleep in later in the mornings.

juuule · 22/01/2008 10:55

My 7yo is similar. 9:30 bedtimes not unusual. Up at 6:30-7am each morning full of beans ready for the day.

Cappuccino · 22/01/2008 11:05

Enid great idea about coming back for little worries

will do that

have started getting out onto the landing and hearing 'muuum' and wanting to back in there with a muzzle and tape

Cappuccino · 22/01/2008 11:35

ds is 8, and in bed at about 8 ish, but generally reads for a bit

dd is 6, and she likes to ask stuff too (hmm, duck tape...), but I get more and more curt/strict, and mummy-monster-y. After the 3rd or so time its just a "NITE NITE"

Enid · 22/01/2008 11:53

lol

learned through bitter experience

dd2 is easily the most exasperating of my children

magnolia74 · 22/01/2008 11:55

Twins are 8 and they go at 7-8pm depending on my mood and how much I want peace!

magnolia74 · 22/01/2008 11:56

They sleep till 7am

Cappuccino · 22/01/2008 21:06

mwahahahaha

she had fallen asleep before I got back for the Q&A

obviously all that trying to remember complete cobblers for 15 minutes tired her out completely

Well you've got your strategy now then. DS had to be woken up yesterday morning so I had him in bed for 7.15, he read me 4 of his poems from his reading book, I read him a chapter from the Enchanted Wood, then agreed he could read Mr Bump and then turn out the light, so should have been about 7.40, no later.

Went up about 8 and he had his light out and was messing about, claimed he wanted to put his light back on because he was scared of monsters. In the most unscared voice ever, and strangely just the same fear voiced by his little sister the day before. So I told him no and to go to sleep and had to wake him up again this morning....
