Fill the bottles with boiling water at 8am. Don't put in the milk powder til you're ready. Even at 4pm the water should still be quite warm.

Alternatively go out for the day!

nailpolish · 26/11/2004 13:55

can you not go to a friends house or something?

WigWamBam · 26/11/2004 13:56

Can you get hold of a camping gaz stove to use for the day instead?

MummyToSteven · 26/11/2004 13:58

would do as fisil suggests. is the lo ok with room temperature bottles? with the food, does he eat out of jars at all, and would he take them unheated?

otherwise i guess if you go out and find a mothercare or somewhere to heat stuff through for you

Maudy · 26/11/2004 14:00

Have you got a camping stove?

Or could you pop to a friends for the day or take a day trip? Bit of a nightmare as that means no lights, telly, kettle...poor thing. I sympathise as I am just coming out of having no hot water or heating for 2 weeks and have had to take my kids to various friends and neighbours for baths!

Good luck.

alibo · 26/11/2004 14:00

thats a good idea about the bottles, his am one will be before 8 anyway. thought about going somewhere for lunch, but when i looked at the map, the area affected is like the whole of nottinghamshire, grantham where dh works etc. so may have to look into a gas stove type thing!

Neighbour with a gas hob? God, poor you. I remember when dds were really little and we had no water for 21/2 days - it was a nightmare.

Fill lots of flasks with boiling water. Will easily keep hot for 8 hours.

alibo · 26/11/2004 14:15

sandwiches would be easy, but he is wheat free at the moment. have just rung the phone number on the leaflet for more info, and they are ringing me back with regards to how wide an area is going to be without power. they never do things by halves these folk do they, not just a few hours but naerly all day!

i know that our water board provide bottled water if they turn you off for a while and you have a young baby, wonder if leccy board do the same? and i dont mean bottled leccy before you all laugh! dont know what i mean

emmatmg · 26/11/2004 14:21

If you've got one of those metal flasks then you'll have no trouble at all. Ours keeps water hot for 24+hours.

Haven't read the whole tread but if you've got a gas hob just light the flame with a match. Very obvious so apologies if you've already though of this.
