it is so impersonal. why have a row by text?
a conversation by text?

but a row, or a conversation?

i hate it
i can't do it v. well and cant be arsed responding to most i get.
chain text jokes piss me off.

I hate chain texts

I got one from my m ate

"I had an xray today and guess what they found. You, in my h eart. with you in my heart yaddah yadah"

I replied "I had an xray of my arse today and they found you, you little shit"

she hasn't replied yet

I get impatient and ring people when a quick text turns into a conversation

RubySlippers · 18/01/2008 14:59

nope

Pick up the phone and SPEAK!!!

and eugh at chain texts - chain emails are bad enough and they go straight into my trash folder

BecauseImWorthIt · 18/01/2008 15:00

Texts are for exchange of quick bits of information IMO.

Can never understand why in Relationships so many women talk about communicating with their dh/dp via text. Maybe that's why they're posting in Relationships, though.

FarcicalAlienQueen · 18/01/2008 15:06

perhaps because texts are cheaper than phone calls - and a text can be answered a short while later - rather than having your phone rining constantly???

ConnorTraceptive · 18/01/2008 15:13

I hate people who text me to say "I'm not coming or I'm going to be late"

It's so fucking rude - Pick up the phone and tell me in person that you can't make it.

Minum · 18/01/2008 15:24

Hate phone calls, hate people interrupting me when I'm in the middle of something, hate talking on mobile when out in public and can be overheard, so love texts. If I'm sitting waiting for a friend in bar & shes running late, a text is a lot less disruptive than her calling when I'm relaxing enjoying a drink

But I'd never have a row by text.

JodieG1 · 18/01/2008 15:30

I had a thread on here about a text disagreement with a "friend", well ex friend now but there were reasons I texted and didn't call. Complicated and if you really want to know the details you can read the threads (doubt anyone will though).

I often text my mum and vise versa but will call her if she's asking something that takes a while to text back. Maybe it's a generational thing? Who knows, maybe I'm just rude. I don't think I'm rude generally though. I do over think everything though. Sigh.

HuwEdwards · 18/01/2008 15:34

I have a mate who never knows when to stop. She will text

'Hi u comin out 2nite'

I text back

'Yes, c u there'

Finished as far as I'm concerned.

But I always get an

'ok gr8' and a smiley face - it's just unnecessary...

ZippiBabes · 18/01/2008 15:37

i like texts..they are cheap and you don't have to answer straightaway and you can keep them

and they are something to do when you are at a loose end having a coffee or something

i hate talking on the phone

callaird · 18/01/2008 18:39

I think texts for quick messages (as described above) are great, you might be busy or on the train (I hate people chatting (usually loudly) on the train) I never have my phone on, it is always on silent/vibrate, unless I am expecting a call and not anywhere I'd rather it not ring, I hate people on the phone when they are in a queue at a till, I think it is so rude, these poor people are stuck on a till for a couple of hours at a time and the only people they get to talk to are the customers (ok, I know not all customers will make small talk with cashiers) and then to be on the phone and not even say please or thank you is so bloody rude!

But my main bug bear is that text can so easily be misread, you shorthand everything and if it is important it can cause so many misunderstandings. If it is important, pick up the phone and call, or text and say I'll call at x time, will that be convienient! Texts may be cheap but friendships/jobs are not!

Blondilocks · 18/01/2008 18:43

I like to text because it's quick & also because the recepient can pick it up & read it when's convenient whereas a phone-call can interrupt them.

expatinscotland · 18/01/2008 18:45

no, i'm with you, custy.

it's handy for messaging someone about plans or about something you forgot.

but rows and conversations?

why go to all that bother?
