Fabulous little gifts for newborns or their mums. Something ethical. Bit of a shopping challenge.

Over the next few months, eight of my good friends and family are having babies.

I will want to get everyone a little gift of some sort. I want to avoid spending a fortune! Maybe some gifts for about £5.00, some for £10? Variations of a similar thing would be good as some of the friends know each other so I'd get similar things for them.

Can anyone point me towards a website that might give me some ideas?

I tend towards the lentil weavy end of the market.

green baby?

Lots of nice toys, not too expensive. They've got a few shops as well (one near me in Greenwich).

Love the hat idea though.

Botbot · 17/01/2008 20:28

Actually I've just looked at the toys section again and some of them are horribly expensive! There are some more reasonable ones mixed in there too though.

What about a homemade 'voucher' for, say, 1 or 2 nights babysitting or a couple of homemade meals deliverd to the new parents? I would have loved that when DS1 was born...

PortAndLemon · 17/01/2008 20:35

Possibly Green Tulip or Baby B Gifts?

BroccoliSpears · 17/01/2008 21:51

Thank you for the thoughts and links.

I would LOVE to crochet them all a hat and am learning to crochet at the moment. The trouble is I'm absolutely dreadful at it. Really really bad. Worse than you're imagining, really.

I'm looking to find a crocheter to give me a one-to-one, but until I do that, hats are out.

Good idea to make something though.

Like the meal / babysitting idea. Will think about that. Babysitting I'd just do anyway for a friend, but something like that would be nice. Oh, except halfway through all these babies I'm having one of my own so might need to just buy or make something in advance.

Good thoughts so far...

Still grateful for website links I've not come across.

Battery charger and selection of rechargeable batteries for all those light-up toys.

One of the nice mobiles from Lanka Kade?

You might be interested in the Earth Mama Angel Baby Range at
www.organicessence.co.uk
Lots of lovely organic and natural baby and mum stuff there for use during pregnancy, labour, postnatel recovery (urghh!) and the new baby.
A little pricey but lovely.

I did a 'post-birth' kit for a couple of friends - I think it had lavender oil, arnica, big bar of Green & Blacks chocolate and an eye-mask (for sleeping in the day). Seemed to go down ok...

I am fairly lentil-weavery myself

The best present my mate gave me 5 days post partum was a home-made lasagne
