Work has just announced up to 150 redundancies (great).

One of the selection criteria is amount of time off sick. My sick record is OK, probably aboiut the same as others, however there is one thing which I would like to raise with my bosses, but don't know if I have a leg to stand on, and if it is best to leave it.

I had a miscarrige in the summer - the pregnancy was a shock and unplanned, and as soon as I found out I was pregnant, I lost it. This was on the Wednesday night, took the rest of the week off, Monday morning off and went back Monday PM. I was physically fine, really, mentally a bit shaky, but everything absolutely ok.

Do yoi reckon I would be in my rights to ask for that period of time to be exempted in the redundancy calucation? Or am I completely off the wall?

Any advice appreciated, thank you.

I wouldn't mention it personally. It is only ONE of the selection criteria and by mentioning you were pg they may assume (rightly or wrongly) that you may get pg again in which case they may use that as something to count against you.

Totally wrong obv but something to consider!

Yes, I know, it's a bit tricksy. Thing is at the time I calleda nd spoke to my boss's secretary, she is very nice and I wept down the phone and told her what the problem was, so my boss knows I had a mc. So on one hand I would feel odd about raising it, but then so don't want to be made redundant. Or am I just over panicking?

Rarr perhaps I just to stop fretting!

I wouldn't mention it. As you say, your sick record is OK and you are only talking about a few days (albeit a very distressing few days for you).
