I damaged my hoover power lead yesterday

I managed to suck the power lead up the hoover yesterday, its taken the rubber coating off, and I can now see the blue and brown wires inside. Now if I used it will I get a shock? I can rewire the power lead as its a Dyson and its all sealed into the hoover. Will isalating(sp) tape be enough and will it protect me from shock? I need to hoover!!

Is your dyson covered by the guarantee? When our dyson motor packed up, someone came out to fit a new motor and they fitted a new power lead at the same time.

Dd is an electrician and he said it wouldn't be safe just to put insulating tape on the bare wires.

Probably not the best idea but yes i would just tape it over with insulating tape,i did this with an iron which i then used for about another 6 months.

I have had it for about 2 years

My dyson did exactly the same thing, it had just shaved part of the inner insulation off though and the wires weren't badly exposed so dh wrapped plenty of insulation tape around it and it seems ok (I'd had it less than a year).

It shows how good the suction is but I do think it is a design fault.

I can't see the copper wire at all. Just the coating

I set fire to the lead of my dyson - it dangled over the gas cooker - silly me. Anyway dh was all for taping it over but I made him cut the damaged part off and put a new plug on - luckily it was damaged quite near the plug end.

You can't be too careful with electricity IMO

its right near the hoover not the plug unfortunely

Aren't dysons covered for two years?
