How to prove UK address for a 6 year old

DivorcedDad123 · 16/06/2022 16:32

I am applying for a "new UK European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)."

My children have not bought a house, taken out a mortgage under the liar loan application process or NINJA loan process to my knowledge........

I can prove their right to reside in the country and have done so but I am expecting the below to be the next demand.

I have family court documents which I am not in a rush to provide which would prove they reside at my address. Frankly its a ridiculous request and the process or person has clearly not looked at the date of birth.

Is there any other way to go about this?

"Proof of residency in the UK

We need to see 2 documents in your name as proof of your residency in the UK. The address on the documents must match the address on your application.

These documents can be either:

one or more different utility service bills, for example a gas, electric, landline telephone, or satellite television bill dated within the last 3 months

a Local Authority council tax bill dated for the current financial year

a housing association, council tenancy letter or rent agreement which is valid currently

a benefit award notice dated within the last 3 months

a letter from HMRC dated within the last 3 months

a bank, building society, or credit union statement or passbook dated within the last 3 months

an electoral register entry dated for the current financial year

a letter from hospital or GP on headed paper dated within the last 3 months

a mortgage statement from a recognised lender dated within the last 3 months

an HMRC self-assessment letter or tax demand dated for the current financial year

a solicitor’s letter dated within the last 3 months that shows a recent house purchase or land registry including the address

If you cannot provide 2 of the documents listed, send us all alternative evidence that you have available. This must show your full name and the address you have used for your application. You’ll need to tell us why you are sending alternative evidence.

If we're unable to accept the alternative documents, we'll contact you to let you know what you should do next."

It also says send us alternatives if those aren't available and explain why alternatives

Did that (letter a UK Government dept stating proof of residency confirmed), explained why. Not accepted. Passport not accepted.

Why does it have to be your address if they live elsewhere?

they live with me 50% of the time, the GP system cannot deal with that, you can only register for one GP at a time, 111 ask where is the child right now so that gets around that issue, their registered address is the ex wife on their systems but I give mine for the answer, where is the child currently

What about their school data forms?

You will have filled out an school data form for all the relevant contact information on it for your child, ask for a copy of that? Will be on official headed paper? i would try that.

thanks @Bunce1 will try that

If their 'official'address is your ex wife's then you need to use that. Is there any reason why you can't?

titchy · 17/06/2022 09:30

Other than they'll go to her address which you clearly don't want Hmm

EinsteinaGogo · 17/06/2022 09:46

We had to get a letter from GP stating they had been registered at surgery for XXX years at XXX home address.

FYI for anyone else attempting to get a card for their children

"Thank you for your email regarding your sons EHIC application.

Unfortunately we are unable to have a main applicant apply in their own right under the age of 16.

For us to get your son an EHIC we would require a parent of guardian to apply and then add any children dependents on that they require.

Please see the link below to assist you with apply for your EHIC or GHIC and add any dependents that also require a card.

That has always been the case with EHiC too. The parent applies and details are included on same application for any under 16s, with separate cards issued for each. Is that not what you have done?

DivorcedDad123 · 21/06/2022 15:26

when I applied before I have no idea, I was working 7 days a week, my job gave me the option to do it or leave, I have not ruled out taking legal action about that but I was working 7 days a week for 3 years, being a defacto single parent as well so its all a blur of children, handling an abusive (now) ex wife and hospital visits until 4/5am and then into work for 9.

The person is probably under a KPI for processing these, he doesn't have the time to do an application with all my documents, its 5 mins to take all the details and key into the system, his KPI looks better refusing my application. I have just reapplied, its my 5 mins not his.

It's not about an individual and their work targets. Children don't get stand alone EHIC or GHIC cards, they never have. A parent has always had to apply for a new/renewed card and then add any children on to that application. I think lots of people responding to your original post assumed you were doing this rather than trying to do an application only for your child and not for you as well.

titchy · 21/06/2022 15:43

It's nothing to do with KPIs (or the fact that you were working 7 days a week and might take your employer to court Hmm). It's always been the case that you have to add your child to your application.

Waste another 5 mins if you want but they aren't going to change the rules just for you.

LIZS · 21/06/2022 16:04

Not sure where your idea about a jobsworth and your employer comes in. Assume you are not doing this through a third party site with a fee? www.nhs.uk/using-the-nhs/healthcare-abroad/apply-for-a-free-uk-global-health-insurance-card-ghic/ see Applying for Family Members The system has not changed. You apply for a ghic and add your children's details. You may need to renew yours at the same time if you already have one.

DivorcedDad123 · 21/06/2022 17:23

No @LIZS I have never typed the word "jobsworth" or referred to the person in that manner without the full facts I cannot describe the person as such, I would have to know their KPI's in order to make a judgement and I don't, yes it would have been great if I didn't have to reapply but I did, my application was wrong but now I have all the supporting documentation and it was 5 mins.

OP posts:
LIZS · 21/06/2022 17:29

You implied that the person was driven by kpi and had the discretion to help but chose not to, yet can offer no evidence! It would have saved you both time had you applied correctly in the first instance.

titchy · 21/06/2022 17:30

Right. So you accept that you were wrong and the person processing was right, rather than having a KPI. Be nice if you acknowledged that.

DivorcedDad123 · 21/06/2022 17:44

well, I will now have two EHIC cards, more plastic to post and send in these green times, the webpage accepted that a 6 year old is applying for the card, do my children also apply for covid tests, that is something I have regularly done in the last 3 years, everytime, their DOB and my email/telephone. Its bad design that a system will accept an application from a person who is clearly not making the application, its also bad life circumstances that lead me to be in a position where just getting through the day was my goal and not remembering how I applied for an EHIC card.

The most positive motive I can think of in refusing the application is its driven by a KPI.

OP posts:
LIZS · 21/06/2022 17:49

Not all systems work the same! You cannot apply logic from one to another. It seems as if some of your difficulties may be of your own making.

Needmorelego · 16/06/2022 17:02

NHS card should have the child's address on.

NHS medical cards are no longer issued.

RuthW · 21/06/2022 17:58

LIZS · 16/06/2022 18:49

Nhs cards

These are no longer issued

Needmorelego · 21/06/2022 18:03

@RuthW oh I didn't know that. I got a new one when I got married and changed my name but that was 10 years ago 😂
Mine is all bashed and faded and I was going to ask for a replacement. I guess I won't bother now.
