Hello, my name is Millie Wallis and I am an MSc student at the University of Edinburgh studying Physical Activity for Health.
As part of my dissertation, I am keen to speak to the parents/carers of primary school aged children in Edinburgh to understand how the physical environment around them impacts their families active travel to school.
Active travel to school, such as walking, cycling, wheeling or scooting provides a regular opportunity for children to be active. This contributes to children’s overall physical activity levels; and improves health, fitness and academic performance.
To further promote active travel in schools, it is important to speak to parents/carers to establish barriers or facilitators which may be influencing their active travel to school behaviour.
The research will involve a short interview using Microsoft Teams and will give you the opportunity to discuss factors of the environment which may be facilitating or hindering your families active travel to school.
This research is beneficial for the community in Edinburgh as it can be used to inform active travel initiatives, for example travel to schools which adjoin Bruntsfield Links and the Meadows. This is beneficial to health overall in the community through increased physical activity, reduced traffic and congestion during peak school times and reduced pollution.
