I can only guess it is referring to relationship beween Lear and youngest daughter, Cordelia (?). They adore each other but get trapped in situ where they can't/won't express it because of stubborness.

Sound about right?

depends ... does she mean the relationship between King Lear and his youngest daughter Cordelia, in that he banishes her from the kingdom because he is too dull witted and arrogant to understand that she refuses to flatter him because she loves him, and not because she doesn't love him?

basically he has 3 children and he thinks the older two love him the most because they shower him with gifts/praise superficial tokens/gestures of love.. He can't see that his youngest daughter loves him the most cos she doesn't do all thaat fake stuff, so he ignores her but the other two are only after his money anyway
