What snacks/ sweets do we have in the UK that isn’t largely available in Australia?

I’m preparing a little gift box for my Australian mum friend that I met online, and I wanted to include some snacks/ sweets that are quite exclusive to the UK. Can you think of any? Or are there any English expats living in Australia who have something they particularly miss? At the moment I’m thinking percy pigs and Cadbury’s chocolate as I’ve heard that it tastes better here, anything else?

whilst we’re at it too, does anyone have any ideas for small (emphasis on small, the package has to be under 2kg to go via RM otherwise it’ll bankrupt me!) and convenient things that you would’ve loved to receive as a new mum? You’d think I’d have a clue considering I’m a new mum too but I can’t think of anything! Also I’ve never sent anything to Australia before, assume it’s okay to send processed foods like sweets and chocolate?!

any suggestions for my one million questions would be much appreciated!

Percy pigs is a great call, but the reason that Cadbury’s has a different recipe over here is that the uk type melts. Maybe just a little bar!

Check Aussie quarantine rules carefully - there's quite a lot of foodstuffs that they don't let in. But you should be OK with confectionery

Also consider: M&S liquorice allsorts (the nicest by far!) Farrah's Harrogate toffee, Scottish tablet, Pontefract cakes, Kendall mintcake, Grantham gingerbreads, Bakewell tarts (the manufactured long-life sorts)

and stick two fingers up by sending proper marmite!

No idea about sweets/ food etc

But new mum ideas

Maybe a baby on board sticker/sign for her car (if she has one)
Inspiring sign ( you know the ones)
Lovely handwritten card
Baby ink print pad
A decision coin that says mummy turn or daddy's turn on it which can be used for fun in regards to nappy changes and things
Self care book

Face pack
Foot pack

Bracelet with mum on
Mini bottle of perfume
Mini bottle of champagne
Part poppers just for fun
T-shirt that says mum for fun

Condoms as a joke if she would find that funny

The thing is, someone who is Australian will have grown up with their Cadbury chocolate, so they will prefer the taste to ours!

My Mum sent me walkers crisps.marmite and Hellman’s mayonnaise!! That was over 30years ago and I was so so happy!!

QuiltedHippo · 28/04/2022 21:34

Always had to bring prawn cocktail crisps to my SIL apparently they don't have them?

Australian Cadbury chocolate, and also Maltesers, are much nicer! They don't have Club biscuits (Timtams are nicer than Penguins so don't bother with them), but then I would worry about chocolate melting in the post so would go with non chocolate items myself.

Yorkshire tea bags?

DailySheetWasher · 28/04/2022 21:48

A pack (or 3) of M&S onesies, impossible to get that quality for the price over here.

I agree about not sending Cadbury, @AnguaResurgam has a good list.

Don't send a Baby on Board sticker! You might as well send one that reads 'I'm a Twat'.

Svara · 28/04/2022 21:54

Chewits, blackjacks, fruit salad sweets. They still often melt and stick to their wrappers!

Perfectlystill · 28/04/2022 21:59

Hahah re 'twat' sticker @DailySheetWasher

I would send a good paperback book - I found good new books hard to come by in Oz with a much worse selection than in England.
