Can you `temporarily' fill in a pond?

Hi, we have a pond that my FIL put in some years ago, he spent a lot of time and money on it even though we weren't that bothered about having one. Now I have a 2 year old i would like to fill it in. It hasn't been a problem until now as I am always with her in the garden but I'd like to be able to pop to the loo for a minute without taking her inside with me. Can you fill it with topsoil or would it just turn all boggy when it rains. Although I'd be happy never to have it as a pond again, i like the idea that we could say we may return it to a pond when she's older?

Sorry for the ramble, can anyone advise??

You could turn it into a bog garden: ie fill it with soil, but put in plants that like damp conditions as it will get boggy when it rains!
