A sort of housewarming gift to cheer her up?

huge family picture to put on the wall.

Lots of pictures of family etc, and put them in frames, the ones in boxes/albums never get seen.

Chocolates and sweeties, basically goodies that don't go mouldy.

Some nice scents, everyone always seemed to have lavender scented stuff, so clearly thats the fashion for the elderly

Large print books

Cord for her glasses (they ALWAYS get lost in homes)

And if you are feeling a bit practical go to BonMarche and go to town on new knickers, vests, nighties, tights and clothes. And label them for her, with her full name. Clothes in homes get trashed, they get washed at all sorts of funny temperatures and whites etc are not separated. Anyway we were always pestering families to buy more clothes, particularly underwear for our residents.

Maybe a cheap CD player with some classic CDs, or just a radio?

A nice clock for her room with a large dial.

A calendar with important dates marked on it (birthdays etc)

Hope this helps. Some of them are a bit boring, but honestly a lot of gifts bought for our residents sat in drawers unused , oh and don't buy scented moisturisers, it never gets used IME. The home will just use E45 on her.

A nice nightie and or dressing gown and or new slippers?

If you're really rich a flat screen tv that won't take up too much space in her room.

Small but pretty pot plant?

A photo of her as a young woman so that the carers see her as a young person and not as just old woman.

My Granny had to go into home and we felt this helped also she could then talk about what she did years ago. She was a teacher.

My mum got my Granny a very soft teddy for her to cuddle.

Sadly my Granny has died now but she was 95.

my great auntie used to flowers that grew in the garden rather than a bought bouquet. She also had a bird feeder that stuck to the outside of the window. She loved watching the birds juts outside her window.

A rellly nice blanket, throw to put over her bed to amke it a bit more homely, scrapbook of family memories, nice to show the carers.

Lovely ideas. Whatever I don't get now, I'll save for her Christmas / birthday list. Thanks.
