Am in a quandry about this.

We used to have gold with the odd bit off other colours thrown in until last year when i changed it too blue and silver, which looked pretty crappy as i had to much silver and not enough blue.

Anyway now we have moved and our living room is now basically a baileys and cream colour, so what colour do i do the tree ??

I still have all the gold dedorations and the silver too, would gold and silver go ??? Or should i do gold and Ivory ????
Must say i haven't seen many ivory decorations though.

Help

gold and ivory would be nice or maybe just ivory on its own. Def no colour.

Mine last year was just gold but am thinking of having "jewel" colours this year.....

Nutcracker · 21/11/2004 14:56

Oooh ivory on it's own sounds lovley, any idea where is selling ivory decorations though ??

Have looked in Asda today but they only have a few.
Am planning on getting a few from the Frankfurt xmas market if all else fails.

I would love to have a classy colour scheme but have far too many cheesy favourites and home made cotton wool and glittery things that have to go on, it will look a hideous mishmash like it always does, and very lopsided and low because the kids do the decorating!
I will have the tasteful silver and blue when they have left home and the house is white and mimimalist (my little fantasy).

what about going for a natural theme? pine cones, orange pieces threaded through, paper decorations of angels etc. (wearing cream of course!) With baileys/cream colours you could get away with warm wintery colours such as burnt orange or claret.

Your room sounds like a lovely colour to work with and goes wonderfully with the infamous brown sofa! (ours arrived this week, I'm so in love . . . )

Nutcracker · 21/11/2004 16:05

Great news Libb

Right i think i will try and go for the ivory theme with a bit of gold and see how i go.

Dp is most unimpressed that i am changing it again, but i don't give a flying f**k to be perfectly honest

Oh . We still put up all the kiddies stuff, any colour, lots of child made oddities.

bunny2 · 21/11/2004 16:17

I love a home-made mishmash of colour - themes are a bit too department store for me. Maybe Im just a bit vulgar but I do like lots of clashing colour at Christmas.

JanH · 21/11/2004 16:17

We do too, Lonelymum - I love them!

JanH · 21/11/2004 16:18

I am very vulgar, bunny

misdee · 21/11/2004 16:19

well we have a mishmash of colours. the white(we are getting rid of it after this year as its falling apart, real tree next year)main tree will be all colours, the small one that goes by the front door will be purples and silver. think we need new tinsel and ceiling decorations as the old ones again are falling apart. we are going to make paper chains with the kids this year, and also going to hunt out pine cones over the next few weeks to paint, glitter etc to hang on the trees.

candy · 21/11/2004 16:24

Okay crafters - how DO you paint pinecones please? My niece collected loads for me and I don't know what to do with them now!

turquoise · 21/11/2004 16:25

We always used to spray them.

misdee · 21/11/2004 16:26

just set the kids down with loads of newspaper (its very messy, let them get busy with the paints. last year they covered them in glue and glitter as well, one even had googly eyes on it lol.

misdee · 21/11/2004 16:26

if u wanted to do it properly yourself, then i;d say spray them.

codswallop · 21/11/2004 16:34

nutty I woudl never have guessed this was your thread!

janeybops · 21/11/2004 16:47

All sorts of colours. Loads of favourites which clash horribly but have happy memories!

Plus my main tree this year is a fibre optic one that changes colours so no decoration required.

golds · 21/11/2004 16:54

I'm having gold, cream and green this year, I change mine almost every year, much to dh annoyance. I think that would look lovely with your decor.

Woollies are selling cream at the moment.

Nutcracker · 21/11/2004 16:56

Pink pink pink pink

JuniperDewdrop · 21/11/2004 17:12

gold and red as too lazy to change, plus anythingn else in box and kids stuff. I'm far too lazy to change it but may buy more baubles this year and ditch the tinsel.

fairydust · 21/11/2004 17:34

this year we are having silver and a icy white have so far spent a fortune on new decoration still have lots to get but want to make it all special for dd this year.

hana · 21/11/2004 17:37

we use the same decorations every year.......doesn't everyone do this?!?!
I always had a new decoration from Santa growing up so when I left home I had a box full ( some nice, others not so - DH vetos a lot of them!) We are doing the same thing for dd now, but with the theme of 'angels' hoping one day that her own DH or DP won't veto any for hanging on the tree!!

PuffTheMagicDragon · 21/11/2004 17:56

There is no co-ordination to our tree whatsoever. The decorations are from various parts of the world that we've collected on hols etc. It always looks totally mad.

carla · 21/11/2004 18:00

COLOUR SCHEME?? fgs it's enough in our household that we manage to get the girls to believe Santa's been!
