How much do you spend on bedlinen?

dh is not happy as he thinks I have spent too much. it was half price!

so how much would you spend on a kingsize duvet set, flat sheet, fitted sheet and two plain pillowcases?

If it was half-price I'd say about £25 (assuming it's not 100% Egyptian cotton or anything)

ok, so not disposable Next sheets. Yes, Fio I would defo revise my estimate upwards! Maybe £80 (at half-price).

Due to my habit of tipping tea all over the sheets and a preference for white sheets I tend to buy cheapo stuff from Next as i don't expect them to last more than 12 months max.

Personally I would spend about £60 - £80 (1/2 price) on a kingsized duvet cover set. So with other bits, about £150.

Ask him how much time he spends wearing his suit? He propably paid the same (or more) on a suit, right. He will wear that suit for about 3 - 5 years (unless he is a fashion victim) and about twice a week if he wears suits to work. That makes about 100 wearings a year. Cost per wear beased on 3 years = 50p

Your bedlinen will last about 5 years plus, assuming you swop it every week (therefore one week on one week off) it will be used about 182 nights a year, multiplied by 5 years = 910 nights of use. Cost per use is????? aboou 16p if it cost £150 a set

Now does he really want you to take it back??

Had a bit of a shock this weekend. Had to buy three pillows, one single duvet, double cover, double fitted sheet, 2 pillow cases, and two padded things for single beds coz dh managed to buy the girls the most horrible hard mattresses ever, all at once and I couldn't BELIEVE what it came to. I am never buying any bed-related products ever again. That's it. The double duvet cover was £55.

Personally I buy good quality bedlinen as I prefer it (cannot sleep in poly/cotton, has to be 100% cotton) We still use the duvets we got for our wedding present 7 years ago. It has loads more wear in it.

I think you had a complete bargain! I generally buy my bedlinen in m&s cos it lasts for ages - we're still using 2 sets we had as wedding presents in 1996. I can only sleep in 100% cotton stuff due to allergic skin, so don't mind spending £150 on a matching set and sheets. John Lewis sale is another good hunting ground for me too. I would tell your DH to stop complaining or he can have cheap sheets in the spare room

We have 4 (that's 2 beds though) One is a guest bed and hardly changed, other every week.

I make dd's -odd size mattress and pillow!

I can actually start to hyperventilate over The White Company catalogue (pathetic I know.)

To slip between their brushed cotton sheets with a good book,a cup of Earl Grey and a hot water bottle is my idea of heaven.

Go with you on the 100% cotton. Polycotton is no good at all. (Also have horrid memories of brushed nylon at my grandmothers when little-as you got in, sparks actually flew! She loved 'em (although I'm sure I would have done to if I'd spent 50 years pounding heavy sheets in a boiler for a family of 8.))

They must be ironed too, or the effect is all spoilt.
