So now the weather is setting in, I bet all those who hate them, secretly wish they had one, I know I love mine.

DH has asked if he can go out in mine tonight as his sports car would be all over the place.

So they do have their uses then, maybe only for 4 months of the year and off roading, but hey I know what I would prefer to drive !!!!!

OP posts:

jampot · 18/11/2004 20:34

MummyToSteven · 18/11/2004 20:36

nikcola · 18/11/2004 20:37

Ronniebaby · 18/11/2004 20:37

Oh yeh too right, mine is ace for this weather

misdee · 18/11/2004 20:38

not really. its just wet here.

MummyToSteven · 18/11/2004 20:38

nope. we can't afford it and i am scared of driving tbh - clumsy/easily distractible/no sense of direction - my mum doesn't drive, MIL doesn't drive (passed test but too scared of it) so at least it seems to be a family thing!!!

nikcola · 18/11/2004 20:40

i cant afford a car now will have to really nag my tight mom and tighter dad !!!! give it a go someday xxxxxxxxxx

Ronniebaby · 18/11/2004 20:43

Having my 4x4 this year I feel much more comfortable at driving in the snow. my old car would slid/skid at the slightest ie/snow or even ran, always wheel span in the wet.

JanH · 18/11/2004 20:44

Yeah, but at least you have passed, nikki - well done! - no more lessons, no more tests!

WomanOnTheClaphamOmnibus · 18/11/2004 20:45

It's nice to see the owners of sports cars and 4x4s being so sensitive and subtle and classy, and happy in their good fortune, and not living up to their stereotypes at all

Ronniebaby · 18/11/2004 20:47

WOTCO - Yeh it is good, my DH has a really nice car, but dont handle the snow well, so I would lend him mine if he needed it.

Evening JanH, how you doing on this fine and snowy night

jampot · 18/11/2004 20:49

WOTCO -

SueW: I find my 2x2 legs function very well in bad weather too, especially when I fit wellies. DH's sports shoes slip everywhere, though.

Catbert · 18/11/2004 20:55

4 wheel drive should be put onto more cars though. Hubbie has A4 quattro, and adores the 4 wheel drive functionality. It's not however, a tank.

I don't think there's any need to get all ner ner ner ner ner about it though!

Damn - and I said I wouldn't get involved...

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!

coppertop · 18/11/2004 20:58

ROFL at 2x2 legs and dh's sports shoes.

We have no car either. It's walking, biking or the bus for us.

Ronniebaby · 18/11/2004 21:02

Catbert - excellent 2x2, I like it, but being 8+ months 2x2 aint very sturdy

Bozza · 18/11/2004 21:20

4x4Owner where do you live? Do you really have bad weather four months of the year?

enid · 18/11/2004 22:01

yawn...I live down a country lane (no houses, surrounded by farmland), at the bottom of a hill, which is often a)flooded b)snowed in c)thick with ice and d)permanantely thick with mud from tractors and I drive 2 kids around quite happily in a Ford Fiesta and have for 3 years. So I KNOW that 4 x 4's are unneccessary!

OldieMum · 18/11/2004 22:10

An interesting calculation would be

cost of 4X4 vehicle divided by probability of snow on any day between 1 November and 1 March;

Another interesting calculation would be

the benefit to society of the activity made possible by the time saved to 4X4 drivers from being able to drive over snow divided by the negative impact on the environment of the emissions from their vehicles

ChicPea · 18/11/2004 22:13

Enid, were you supposed to be in disguise??!!

enid · 18/11/2004 22:14

?

edam · 18/11/2004 22:18

I just wish 4x4 and all other drivers would STOP driving through puddles at speed so they soak pedestrians. It isn't big and it isn't clever. It's pathetic. And oafish.

However, I did get a free mulled wine and a mince pie in the street on the way home tonight which slightly cheered me up. Got the chance to tell the restaurant who were doing this that I wouldn't darken their doors until they stop being so hostile to buggies as well
