Hi

I have an American friend and want to send her a surprise box of treats.. things she can’t get over there.. I’ve thought of Yorkshire tea bags and Cadburys chocolate (heard their chocolate isn’t the same as ours?) HP sauce, crisps and biscuits I’ve heard are popular. Has anyone got any other ideas of what I could send?

Thank you x

Good chocolate. Good Coca Cola (Our coke contains sugar, their coke contains Fructose syrup).

Marmite

Cheesy biscuits, the puff pastry cheesy type. Like M&S Cornish cruncher or Cartwright and butler cheese crumbles. (My aunt lives in the US and these always go down well in a care package).
Twiglets.
Shortbread
Tunnocks tea cakes and wafers

Bisto Gravy.

I have regularly sent small gifts to the USA [prizes for an online quiz-type thing] and they all seem to adore proper butter shortbread biscuits.

I have sent Marmite if I've been able to help myself to the little single portions from hotel buffets, the jars are so heavy to post!

'English breakfast' tea is good, also chocolate. Penguin biscuits have been a surprise hit, so a sort of tea-break selection with tea bags [strict instructions to use boiling water, of course] and a few individually wrapped chocolate treats would be good.

There are loads of videos of people trying British foods, things that always go down well are:
Crunchies
Walnut whips
Percy pigs
But most popular are Colin the caterpillar cakes!

Trevor Extra Strong Mints.

Those boxes of chocolate covered biscuits from m&s, or tins of shortbread. I took them when I went on business to the US & they went down a storm.

My American friends loves custard so I sent her loads as she doesn't have it there

bluebird3 · 20/02/2022 12:06

Might not be easy to get at this time of year, but a Brirish friend who lives in the States always say how much he misses mince pies at Christmas - his American partner thinks they're just weird.

merrymelodies · 25/02/2022 21:41

Oh, I'm in Canada and there are many British products that are available here and I imagine it's the same in the US so get her something unusual! I'm trying to think what I miss most... M&S? lol

merrymelodies · 25/02/2022 21:43

Tate and Lyle have an American headquarters!

wizzler · 25/02/2022 21:45

Can't go wrong with Henderson's

FeelinSpendy · 25/02/2022 21:48

Percy pigs and Colin the Caterpillar sweets always go down well.

merrymelodies · 25/02/2022 21:53

I'm always on about Emma Bridgewater, which I love. You can get it over here but it's astronomically expensive.

Pallisers · 25/02/2022 21:56

Depending on where she is you can get a lot of UK stuff in the US. I can get british chocolate, teabags, jaffa cakes, biscuits etc in most supermarkets. You can easily buy mexican coca cola which has sugar not fructose in it. Like a pp what I really miss is Marks and Spencers so I would buy things from there.

Josie1968 · 25/02/2022 22:51

Ok thanks everyone.. will pop to M&S 😊👍

I'm in the US and have never seen Golden Syrup, so that might be good to send.

ChicCroissant · 25/02/2022 23:49

Items that have been requested are Thornton's chocolates, cider and a 'mind the gap' sweatshirt! DH has taken Duchy Original shortbread over and that went down well, might only be sold at Waitrose now.

Smokeahontas · 25/02/2022 23:51

Hotel Chocolat! Any chocolate really, cos American chocolate tastes like farts.
