Extremely dull question, I'm afraid, from an IT illiterate person. I have downloaded the firefox web browser onto my pc as I have heard it is so much better than explorer.
Can't see much difference myself and I'm just getting confused as to what all the fuss is about.
Can anyone enlighten me?

i now use firefox after someone on here recommended it. it isn't much different at all but most virus/worms/bugs etc are written for Internet Explorer as it's what most people use so you are ledd likeley to get PC problems using Firefox.

i was plagued by 'find the website you need' which is som sort of spyware, since changing to Firefox we ahven't had this problem.

Two words: tabbed browsing!

MrsDoolittle · 18/11/2004 12:22

Very nailpolish Firefox was recommended on Radio 2 in the afternoon the other day - Miles Mendoza.
Still trying to get used to it. Why don't the windows stay open?

Okay, using a mumsnet example, MrsDoolittle... I bring up Find New Messages and do the search from last time I read - you then get that long list of thread links.

I right-click on each link that sounds interesting and select "open link in new tab" from the options then carry on down the list. I'll then click into each tab later to read the thread.

Quite often, if I'm reading an article or a thread with links, I'll right-click and open into a new tab to look later so I don't lose the thread of conversation (as you would if you were clicking and the whole window changing to the new article).

Does that make sense?

MrsDoolittle · 18/11/2004 12:34

It does Georgina Thank you. I think I am finally beginning to understand it. I shall practice it now

I've found Firefox loads up pages a lot quicker than IExplorer.

spacemonkey · 18/11/2004 14:56

I have uninstalled Internet Explorer now. Firefox is much better - quicker and more secure imo.

Yes I like this tab browsing, just need to play with it a bit more. I feel soo cool. And with a gmail account too

MrsDoolittle - if you really get on with tabbed browsing and you've got the latest Firefox (1.0) there is a way to set preferences so every time you LEFT-click in a link it automatically goes into a tab (or a new window or same window - depending on personal preference). I keep meaning to play with the options a bit more, but I haven't got around to it yet!

Gee Thanks Goergina, will keep you posted!
