Child Protection visit?!

Hi, I was assaulted while pregnant by the father of the baby. And I reported him to the police and pressed charges but I recently dropped the charges. All this happened around 2-3 weeks ago

I've now received a letter from a social worker from child protection services saying they want to visit me Monday and I'm really not sure why?!

Has anyone else gone through this?

Lots of women don't support court cases but there are other things you can do to protect yourself and the baby eg get a non molestation order to keep him away from you. It may help you to contact to a local domestic abuse service to get some advice on your options- their number will be on your local council website. They should be independent of police and social services. They or the social worker can advice on child contact options for the future to protect your baby.

A domestic abuse service can also advise on the court case which is likely to go ahead - you can't'drop charges' because you didn't bring them, you can only withdraw your support for the case.

There is a lot of support for you through the court process if you are willing to accept it.

Your reasons for dropping the charges are valid ones, but they don't know them.
Of course they want to visit and check the safety situation of your baby. It's their job as well as yours. Just be open and honest with them. And use their help. They can be incredibly helpful.
