I've booked Feb half term off and will

  1. go to see my mum
  2. spend 2 nights staying with a very lovely old friend and another mutual friend and assorted children and
  3. spend 2 nights in a hotel with dh as ex mil is having children

So, what have you got to look forward to? And if it's nothing, what could you plan?

Ahhh at all these imminent births!
I forgot to say my littlest sister is giving birth in Feb to her first baby so I am also looking forward to being an aunt and holding a newborn

Nutcracker, RIGHT the point of these threads is to make you all plan something if you haven't got anything to look forward to. It doesn't have to cost a fortune or take a lot of organising, it just needs to be something you like and that makes you happy and that you will look forward to!

Ooh, well...my plans are not as crystallised as yours yet www , but
Trip to see friends in Edinburgh
Lunch with lovely friends soon
Baptism of the Wonderbaby Niecelet next month
Three more budget ferry crossings already bought and needing booking for short trips to France (dh's birthday for example)
Wedding of SIL in July, OK, major Bridezilla scenario but it's still going to be a happy family occasion (must stockpile valium starting now)
Likelihood of joint festivities for dd and niecelet's birthdays in the summer
Main holiday in Normandy to look forward to in August, all booked except for stopover hotels

how can we plan anything with no money and no babysitters?

plans are for people with choices

WideWebWitch · 28/12/2007 20:02

snowfun, when I was very very skint and bored and a sahm I planned LOTS of things, all free. For example,

local walks
a list of things for playgroup mums to do over the summer holidays: picnics/park outings/crab fishing/races in the park with children/pot luck suppers
I set up a babysitting circle so I had free sitters
I got books from the library or second hand shops
I invited friends to stay and fed them cheap but lovely food

www, thanks for the suggestions but my eldest has had 9 years of doing a lot of these things and is bored with the park, my get togethers etc etc

anyway I've just read onlyjoking's thread about her situation and I've got absolutely no reason/right to moan so please ignore me

PS enjoy half term!

Birthday next week. How on earth can I be almost 35 already?

Arrival of friends twins in May (long awaited after years of TTC)
Had planned to go over to Scotland in June to see them but...

SIL-to-be has just found out she is pregnant and due in July. Complete surprise as she is 40 and had so many problems getting pregnant with first baby 7 years ago (with her exH) Mega-exciting as DB had resigned himself to not having a child of his own.

Cousin also due in June so I will be driving around Scotland looking at babies. There must have been something in the water a couple of months back.

2 weddings in October, one of which I will not get to, depending on where DD starts school.

And most exciting of all, I am hoping and praying that DH gets transfered to the European HQ of his company in Switzerland. Will be difficult to move away, but I am looking forward to a new challenge.

snowfun - if your eldest is 9, does he not perhaps spend a night at friend's house from time to time? Could you not manage to farm your children out to sleepovers sometimes (obviously you will then return them) and get some time to yourselves that way?

Two weeks in Cornwall - on the Lizard - in a caravan next door to my best friend and her family in their caravan. It's the third year we've done this and I can't wait.

And - not exactly looking forward to - but in March we find out which secondary school ds1 goes to and then maybe we'll have an idea of where we are likely to move to (I am desperate to move). I'm worried to death about it all but it will be nice to be out of limbo and finally know where he's going.

Short term, going round to said best friend's some time over New Year for drinks and a meal and my parents are having the boys overnight. So we get to stagger home (she only lives down the road) to an empty house and get a lie in the next morning. Bliss.

5TH JANUARY is dd2 1st birthday

and few things for during the year - in july meeting up with friends we made on our honeymoon (will be our 5year anniversary) we are still deciding whether we do family weekend (we have both had 2 dc since honeymoon and we havent seen theirs and vice versa or to have adult weekend reliving long nights we had in Jamaica child free!)

In spetember going to eurodisney for dd1 4th birthday, she will be so so excited when we tell her

snowfunwhenyoureknackered · 28/12/2007 21:28

hi Anna, trouble is ds2 is 6 and is a bit young for sleepovers, he also climbs into our bed some nights and am wanting him to stop this before we let him out!

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 28/12/2007 21:33

2008 is going to be a good year for us. Don't know why, I just feel its about bloody time! I'm going to be 40 in a few week and we're planning a big party to celebrate. We've just re-mortgaged the house, so I might actually get the extension and new kitchen finished too. We might even find a few quid for a decent holiday as well.

Roll on 2008, I'm glad to see the back of this year!

Happy and healthy 2008 everyone!
