My partners ex works for the NHS - sonographer. I know legally and morally they shouldn't but can they look at my medical records? What information do they need to view a record?

If they work at a hospital where you have treatment than yes a sonographer would be able to access your records. All they would need is your name and date of birth. However it is possible to trace who is accessing your records, and if you had legitimate concerns that they had done this- they could investigate

If they access a record it leaves a marker, so it could be seen that someone has accessed the record inappropriately. The sonographer could be sacked/face HR disciplinary. Often there are some restrictions on the systems that professionals can only access parts of records needed that are relevant to current treatment but not always the complete record

Not a sonograoher but on my NHS computer system if someone isn’t under my team, I have to put a reason why I am accessing the record (new admission etc).

How does it work? Do they need my dob to find me? I have a very very uncommon name and surname so I can't imagine there been any other people with my name?
