Life is short

A couple of things have made me realise this. The first one being the seizure I had a couple of weekends ago, which caused me to stop breathing, and now another event. We got an email the day before yesterday to say a friend of ours had died. He had fallen over a bannister at his ex boyfriend's house ,15ft onto slate tiles below. He was found almost immediately, but when he was taken to hospital they found no sign of any brainstem activity. He was 42. Just made me stop and think. Very sobering.

SpringChicken · 16/11/2004 18:08

Very Lou - i have many things in my life that make me think about this.

DP's dad dying of lung cancer at the tender age of 43.
My mum being diagnosed with both brain and blood cancer at the tender age of 27 (Still going strong now though )
DP having heart problems which no-one seems to be able to or interested in identifying
Not one male member on DP's Dad's side of the family living over the age of 55

Need i go on.......................

blossomhill · 16/11/2004 18:08

Spring chicken

sunchowder · 16/11/2004 18:11

Oh Lou--that is horrible. My thoughts are with you. I too feel this way alot (hence my uncontrollable spending and eating...). I am much more in the moment as time goes on.
When I worked in the office, I had a friend that died next to me in the conference room. I was kneeled down holding her legs while they were doing CPR. Ahe had a massive heart attack and passed away right there while I was holding her. It was April 16, the day before I had lost my mother 7 years earlier.

I just wanted you to know that I understand what you might be feeling and so agree with you. Our time here is so short, it would be wonderful if we could enjoy it and be more spontaneous . XO sunny

fairyfly · 16/11/2004 18:13

Sorry to hear that lou, take care of yourself wont you x

sunchowder · 16/11/2004 18:14

Lou, will this jeopardize your trip? Do they know what caused the seizure?

Sorry Spring Chicken...

lou33 · 16/11/2004 18:26

No it won't jeopardise my trip. Don't know what caused it. My grateful thanks , and account of seizure are here . Sorry I assumed everyone would know what I was talking about

It's just these two things in combination have made me wonder how I should conduct my life from now on. Should I go with the live life to the full attitude, or down the be more careful with yourself route? Very hard to find the right way when you have children .

Lou I had NO idea!!! Thank GOD for Essbee--amazing...sorry that you won't be able to drive then as you were looking forward to that. I am just so glad you are alright. I missed the entire thread. Don't know where I was....I know what you mean about having the children and risk taking in terms of being spontaneous..I have similar thoughts...

lou33 · 16/11/2004 18:46

I am fine honestly, but it just had me thinking along with the friend dying, that's all. Was thinking about all the things I wished i had done before having children.

Can't think of anything sensible to say except (((hugs))).

SpringChicken · 16/11/2004 21:04

Very true Beety - I just keep looking a my beautiful little angel DD and it makes me realise that although life can be a complete shit at time some bloody marvelous things come out of it too

unicorn · 16/11/2004 21:13

sympathy to you lou..

I know what you mean though...
we had a near fatal tyre blowout on M6 this summer(all of us in car).. still don't know how/why we all got out of it, point is we did.

I would love to say I have changed my life as a result, can't say I have, but I do cherish my time with my children just that bit more.

maomao · 16/11/2004 21:19

Lou, sorry to hear your news.... I've had lots of things in my life that have made me realize that, too. I definitely say live it to the fullest. xxxx

marthamoo · 16/11/2004 21:26

(((hugs))) lou. I lost a friend many years ago - she died after falling out of a window; she was only 22. I still think of her often and wonder what she would have done with her life if she hadn't died so tragically young. It does make you stop and think :life is so tenuous.

lou33 · 16/11/2004 22:21

dh is struggling to get any work done in his studio, because everything he is using has connections to this man

OP posts:
unicorn · 16/11/2004 22:29

maybe that is the point.. if WE die early - it doesn't so much matter for us (as we've gone)- but it is more significant to those left behind.

So tbqh I don't think my own death is anything to me (naturally I would like to be here a bit longer- but I don't necessarily have a say).. it would just be nice If I have have had some sort of positive impact on people - and in some small way can help them.

Does that make any sense?

unicorn · 16/11/2004 22:31

sorry if that comes across in any way unsympathetic Lou.. dh, and you, must be in shock. {hugs}
