My dryer doesn't have a flumey thing outside, its one of those with a drawer full of water. It says on the silver thingymajig unit that i have to clean it. I have thrown the manual away. Anyone know how i clean it and how i get the machine good again. Its taking ages to dry clothes. Please help i have no man in the house and my pretty little brain doesn't understand the wonders of technology. TIA.

My dryer has a box underneath it which fills up with fluff over time. I take out the box and rinse it under the tap, getting all (or most) of the fluff out. It's not full of water, sometimes has a little in it.

hi ff..
well the one we have just bought is a hotpoint, and after every dry you are supposed to clean the fluff flter (i just pull the fluff off) and drain the water from the boxy thing (im not techo either!)
Once a month you are supposed to take out the silver condenser unit and rinse it - by holding it upside down underneath the tap.

hth!!!

FF I have a condenser machine. You have to clean the unit that pulls out (the condenser unit) - not the water tray - on mine, and I just stand it in the sink and run water through it. It's just to get all the fluff out really.
When mine starts taking ages to dry just making sure that that is free of fluff, the screen is clear and taking out any other fluff that I see behind the screen usually helps.

as has already been said..... I'm far too slow at this!

JoolsToo · 16/11/2004 11:14

theres the vent - fluff collector - that in the door on mine - theres the water carrier - at the bottom on mine and the condenser unit needs to be taken out and cleaned too as Avalon says - rinse in water!

What make is it, they probably all differ a bit ? On ours (Bosch) you had to empty the condensor drawer every use (sometimes more than once) and defluff the first fluff filter but when ours stopped drying properly I had to take off the front panel at the bottom and pull out a grid-fronted drawer, clean that out and clean behind it where the lint had built up. Also make sure the holes at the back of the drum are clear.

You may be able to download instructions form the manufacturer's web site.

Thanks so much for all your help , i never knew you had to rinse the unit out. Also i have pulled out enough fluff to stuff a factory of teddies. Hopefully i can dry clothes a lot quicker now, fancy something like that making your day, what a sad sad state of affairs.

fairyfly · 16/11/2004 13:40

lol.. can you get solid fluff?!!!!!
what have you been drying FF?

fairyfly · 16/11/2004 13:47

I think its the fact i have never cleaned it before which is slightly embarassing

I find blasting it with the shower does the trick (I'm rather lazy about cleaning mine too).

unicorn · 16/11/2004 14:05

maybe it is limescale that is blocking it?

fairyfly · 16/11/2004 14:23

yoyo tried that, didn't move an inch
