DP has gone away for a weeks training course about 150 miles away. Today is only the first day but now it's around the time that he is usually home I'm wondering what to do with myself!!! dd will be going to bed in about half hour then its just ds who will drift off about 8 ir 9. I'm sooooo bored already!! What do any of you do when dh/dp is away?

Long hot baths with a copy of OK magazine, or watch girly rubbish on TV without the accompaniment of 'Humph' every 5 minutes, eat a family size bag of Maltezers wihout having to stuff the bag under the sofa when I hear the key in the lock. O, the list is endless!

jellybabe83 · 15/11/2004 18:56

I sit around bored....! Lol...! But seriously, there's probably SOMETHING decent on TV....! Actually, maybe not?!?! Do some baking or crafty things or something? I do a lot of cross-stitch, and that keeps me entertained for hours at a time!

zephyrcat · 15/11/2004 19:04

I'm stocked up on pringles, biscuits and yummy food! It's a really strange feeling being stuck here on my own!! The most annoying thing is i forgot a bottle of coke and cant get out to get one til tomorrow now!! It's amazing what you take for granted!!

My dh is also going to be away for about a week - I intend to do things like sorting out that huge pile of kids' pictures that is growing in my kitchen/ put photos in photo album/ get to grips with all the paperwork that is well overdue a sortout/ tidy out toy cupboard/ sort out craft drawers/ etc...BUT from previous experiences I know all I will do is waste time watching crap TV and posting on mumsnet

Poo2 · 15/11/2004 19:30

Wallace - perhaps Gromit could do the paperwork while you watch telly. Tee-hee

My DH s coming to the end of a mental corporate roadshow schedule which has meant staying away from home for 4/5 nights a week, leaving me with 3 kids and all the crap that comes with it (but that's another thread!).

The evenings have been spent watching tv, having lovely long luxurious baths with lots of girly products. They've been fairly Brtidget Jones-esque, actually !

codswallop · 15/11/2004 19:45

drink wine
do household chores

Angeliz · 15/11/2004 19:46

I'm with Kayleigh!

NomDePlume · 15/11/2004 19:49

Should say 'Bridget Jones' ! Only without the fags and (sadly) neither Hugh nor Colin Firth were involved...

vict17 · 15/11/2004 19:52

My dh goes out a couple of nights a week so I either come on here, watch TV or a film on dvd, read in bed or phone family/friends. All of which are accompanied by wine and usually Pringles and/or chocolate!!

libb · 15/11/2004 19:56

I am kind of looking forward to this phase - DS is only 6 months and I have forgotten the concept of "me" time - sounds lovely to me . . .

vict17 · 15/11/2004 19:59

poor you libb - doesn't he have a 'bedtime' as it were so you get your evenings back?

zephyrcat · 15/11/2004 20:18

ok i have a plan - i'm going to gut this house and make it all sparkly nice for when he gets back - although if i know me i'll be on here alllll day and now allllll night!!! I'm really tempted to be bad and buy a pack of fags too..... while the cat's away and all that!!

Be strong zephyr

Wallace · 15/11/2004 20:26

Did I inspire you zephyrcat? Dh used to come home to a sparkling house when he had been away...

I do find I have a lot more time when he isn't here though. When he is at home we sit and chat, drink tea, etc after supper, whereas when he is away I get the dishes and clearing up done straight away, then the kids bathed and to bed, then I have he whole evening in front of me

bonym · 16/11/2004 14:39

I have been known to decorate when dh away! Also get girly dvds out that he wouldn't enjoy and have long chats on the phone to my girlfriends (always feel like I'm neglecting him if I do this when he's at home. In fact he's away tomorrow night and and then off to the States on Saturday for a week. Have to say though, I don't like it much when he's not here

Flum · 16/11/2004 14:43

Have a girly dinner party!

Thats what I do, and lots of baths. And putting photos in albums.

My dp is away four nights a week. I love him dearly but I love the quiet time.

Don't do cleaning - my dp doesn't notice difference between a quick tidy and a full spring clean. Both get lots of praise so I just do the former!

Good for you!! DS has gone down properly for the first time in yonks tonight so I actually do have a moment to breathe out (one of those odd phases that has no obvious reason) - thank goodness for small mercies!

zephyrcat · 16/11/2004 23:23

I'm going to feel crap in the morning for staying up late but the peace is worth it!!!
