Just wondering what everyone does? Dh had a pillow case as a child, but I had a stocking......so we've met midway and are going for extremely large stockings this winter!

i had black bags for the main toys and a small stocking for fruit and nuts with a small toy mymother done that up until i had ds at aged 24

Ahh . My sister's 'helping' DH with mine this year, and I'm doing one for her! Oh, as well as the children too, of course .
Also, pretty much all presents to my DH as a child were 'from santa'. Whereas in my family, just the stocking was from an outsider and the larger presents from family.
Who's the stocking filler(er!) in your house?

We had pillow cases at the end of our bed as children. But in the US stockings hung on the mantlepiece are the norm, and it does look nice, so that's what we do.

The English tradition of giving Santa a mince pie and a glass of sherry has triumphed over the milk and cookies he usually gets here though.

DD will have a stocking with her little toys/pressies in. And then the rest of the presents will be under the tree, al out.

When little we had a pillow case, and we each had space for our presents on part of the sofa or chair - as they were always over spilling a bit.

we had a stocking at the ends of our beds with silly things in then one big present from santa under the tree and all the other present were from who they were from iykwim.

We had stockings and tehn the big pressies under the tree... My grandparents used to give us a big sack full of toys each, and then when they retired and had less money it was quite dissapointing for us as kids....! I think keeping it small is better to avoid any dissapointment....?

mumwithnoname · 15/11/2004 09:23

Always done stockings. still do even though my 2 eldest are 15 & 16!! Stockings in bedrooms off FC, prezzies downstairs off us(gives us a bit longer in bed!!!)

Tommy · 15/11/2004 10:08

We always had stockings (football socks!) which we left downstairs for Father Christmas to fill (Bless Him - he did it until I was at least 20!) with little presents and useful things like new pants, bras, toiletries etc and then our presents from parents, otjer family etc were under the tree - only to be opened after lunch! We do the same with our DSs now although the stockings are smaller (so mean!) and hopefully Santa will not put any bras in them...

DillyDally · 15/11/2004 10:52

Both!
A stocking on the bed with small items (hair bobbles, clips, stickers etc) that Mum said kept us in bed a bit longer so she didnt have to get up at 5am and then a pillow case under the tree from Santa that we had to wait for everyone to get up first before we could open it.

Both I'm afraid - main pressies in pillow case outside bedroom door (bottom of bed too risky) chocolate orange, satsuma, and 1 or 2 little pressies in stocking by fireplace.

acer · 15/11/2004 22:38

Always a great big sack of toys at the end of their beds, with main present under the tree, costs a fortune!! stocking presents in our house consists of presents costing between £10 and £50 each!

Fran1 · 15/11/2004 22:42

I didn't realise peopled did it differently!!!

We had a big sack (bin liner size) full of pressies at the end of our beds from Santa.

and pressies round tree from parents and family etc.

All torn open instantly, couldn't have dreamt of waiting til after dinner!!

Dd is two this year, and i was planning on doing the same for her, hadn't considered any alternative. hmmmmm now i'm thinking lol

Oh yes, always a satsuma in the sack!

Levanna · 15/11/2004 23:25

We always had a satsuma too (in our stockings!) and a handful of small change......where are these traditions from, does anyone know?

my girls have christmas bags for stocking stuff. Small gifts go in these nothing over £5.Thats what they believed came from Father Christmas. Now they are 17,1714 and 12 they don't still believe but still like to pretend and will leave food for Father Chricstmas and his reindeer Family presents go under the tree.
