Please could anyone inspire me with a 'different' idea for DD's birthday party in January?

We went to the pantomime for dd's birthday last year (also in Jan).

We took a couple of her mates and dd2 ...the children loved it and a couple of them had never seen a pantomime before so they were thrilled to bits

In the past we have done for a chosen few...
...indoor rock climbing...
...cookery party...

Ooooh indoor rock climbing sounds great!

We took dds to Liverpool museum in the summer and they loved it, not sure whether she'd like it for her birthday though ...

Thats not to say that your dd wouldn't like it though - my dd is a couple of years younger than yours (will be 8 in jan) and is still in the pictures/bowling phase

Have you asked dd what she would like to do or do you want to keep it as a surprise?

Does she like being frightened? Perhaps you could take advantage of the early evenings do an outdoors treasure hunt with some spooky bits.

What about the dungeons in York,www.thedungeons.com/en/york-dungeon/index.html then a meal after?

Bit gruesome, but fun

'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' is on at the West Yorkshire Playhouse till 2nd February. (Not sure how far from Leeds you are, but you said not far from York, so might be do-able.)

My dd had a pony party last year. Admittedly her birthday was in May, but it pee-ed it down the whole time and they still have loads of fun. Had an hour's riding (lots of games and fun things) and then came back to our house to get dry (!) and have party tea. If you are more sensible than me you could look for a place with an indoor school, thus remaining dry if not actually warm.

I think there's an indoor rock climbing wall somewhere in Leeds, too.

lots of choice for your dd

DD (10) went to a craft party recently and loved it. I think the mum had just bought mosaic kits. She also really enjoyed a swimming party, but not a private one. We dropped her off at pool, birthday girls' parents took them all into the sat morning fun swim, then they all went to prezzos for lunch, I think they all found it grown up!

Ds has done laser quest parties and the girls have enjoyed it too.

Dd1's friends have done, variously:

rock-climbing, boat club party (with canoeing instruction), cookery/baking party, riding at local equestrian centre, ice-skating and trip to a bike-track.

The local sports centre also offers a range of sports parties where you get an hour's coaching and an hour for tea upstairs somewhere.

is there an ice rink nearby?

my DS1 went ice skating for a birthday party in the summer last year and loved it and wants to do it again soon. problem we have tho is that we don't anymore have a decent size rink nearby that is permanent. all we have is a tiddly one in the nex town, and a large one for 5wks over xmas and 8wks in the summer!

anyhoo....enough of my rant.....but a sugestion for you.

The ice rink on Millennium Square (still in Leeds) should still be operating throughout January, I think.

a craft party where they get to make stuff?

littleboo · 31/12/2007 16:24

We've done the toboganning thing at local snow centre which was really fun

BettySpaghetti · 31/12/2007 16:27

DD went to a pony trekking party this time last year -they just wrapped up warm and got on with it. TBH they loved it so much I don't think rain, snow or severe gales would have stopped them .

Go for it! They could come back for hot chocolate and party food at yours afterwards.

laser tag is so much fun i went about 3 years ago with my kids and i literally dribbled wee in excitement (weak bladder had twins)

SevenRustySwansASwimming · 31/12/2007 16:33

DS had a rock climbing party for his 10th birthday - it was great - but pretty exhausting - the birthday tea was very quiet....

ADDICTEDtosayingHAAAAAAAPYxmas · 31/12/2007 16:34

am at the price of these

what about here

or this

[[http://www.thefarmerscart.co.uk/school_tours.htm these do parties but your dd may be a bit old?

Trikkitt · 20/04/2011 18:02

Custardo, Q2000 is the manufacture of the equipment used. You'll need to look on the website of the venue itself to get the pricing.
