The only things that have any real evidence backing are a) nipple stimulation and b) sex. So have fun.

Try and relax and forget about it for as long as you can. Watch something really funny. Bounce on a ball, walk up and down the stairs a lot. Anything that can get baby banging away at your cervix. So to speak.

What used to be called a midwife's cocktail: castor oil, orange juice and wodka
My waters were gone and no sign of labour - got the cocktail and DS was out within an hour

A good hot, spicy curry.
A good brisk walk.
Lots of sex with nipple stimulation!!
Have a cracking time!!!

It’s true nipple stimulation and sex do have evidence of working.
Do not take castor oil with vodka- castor oil causes fatal distress so is dangerous way to induce labour, and no amount of alcohol is safe in pregnancy.

The only other thing that is evidence based is mum has to be relaxed and feeling safe to go into labour. If we are stressed and tense, adrenalin keeps us from going in labour. It’s old reaction to stress hormones from when women had to get safe from a sabre tooth tiger before going into labour. It’s also why many women’s labour can slow down or even stop when they go into the hospital. That’s why they want you to do as much as you can at home, so it’s point of no return when you do go in. So, do some self care things that make you feel cosy, warm, relaxed and safe.

Autocorrect hate you! I meant fetal distress not fatal

prettyteapotsplease · 02/12/2021 15:51

I'm not sure if this would help but when my mum was in hospital for high blood pressure and I wasn't due for another six weeks she always reckoned that having to clamber in and out of a high hospital bed several times a day brought on her contractions. You probably don't feel like doing this. I was six weeks early.

A sip of wodka at the end of a full term pregnancy can do no harm whatsoever from an avoid alcohol point of view.

Rather more than a sip was advised as a way to induce labour “naturally”. Not only does alcohol not induce labour, the actual medical guidelines are that no amount is safe. You can say the risk of harm is low, but you cannot say “will do no harm” as that is contrary to medical advice.

Raspberry leaf tea , LOADS of raspberry leaf tea, and sex, make sure he cums inside you , you want that sperm all over your cervix ! And make sure you cum as well , good to kick if contractions.
I would also, just for fun, go for the vodka and orange minus the castor oil, no risk of FAS now!

You can try hand expressing colostrum, think this might have started my labour...

MaisyMary77 · 02/12/2021 16:39

20 years ago I used an essential oil called clary sage. I also drank lots of raspberry leaf tea. Probably best check about the safety of clary sage -my midwife recommended it when I was pregnant but times and advice have changed since then.

Castor oil. 20ml in a glass of innocent smoothie. 3 hours later it all kicked off! PM for more info

Namenic · 02/12/2021 16:44

I think websites do NOT encourage a large sudden intake of raspberry leaf tea - I would discuss with midwife first.

Good luck - I’m in a similar situation. Can’t wait for baby to arrive but apart from strong Braxton hicks, no sign… due for sweep tomorrow.

Hmm, maybe try doing something that would make labour very inconvenient -- empty all the kitchen cupboards? start a redecorating project or upholstery project? go on a day trip some distance away or to a very long showing at the cinema?

With DS2 I was very disabled and my consultant kept doing sweeps on me from 37 weeks out of pity. It was just unpleasant though and I don't think it made a blind bit of difference.

Have you had any show? That's often a few days before isn't it.
