We are hopefully going to move house soonish and will be moving into a different county (although only a few miles away). Do we have to change doctor? I like our doctor's surgery!

It depends on the catchment boundaries of your doctors. I would ask at the surgery.

i have the feeling you do, i think it is because of if you need to actually "call out" the Dr from your surgery they wont travel too far. (work load, time to get round all call outs in one area rather that widespread.) iyswim. Sorry, but do check with your sugery. I only say that because i had to when i moved.

Your practice will have agreed it's practice area with the local Primary Care Trust. If you are moving out of this area it may take you off it's list, but may decide to keep you on. This can depend on a lot of factors. Practice areas do not necessarily correspond to county boundaries so you may still be inside the practice area.
Call out may not be so much of an issue as long as you are not a person who tends to require home visits "in hours". Out of Hours cover will probably not be the responsibility of the practice any more so they may not take that into account.

If you do have to move to a new practice, it is worth having a good look at the practices you could move to. The nature of general practice is changing with the new contract. Some will be developing and providing more services from within the practice. Find out from the practice, and the local Primary Care Trust about what the plans they have. The PCT will also have, or be in the process of developing a Strategic Service Development Plan which will show the plans for services and practice premises within your area.

Assume you are in England as it may be different elsewhere. Hope this helps
