as we often moan anout our DHs here on mumsnet I thought I should post this in priase of mine (for once).

On monday morning my DH, having arranged for our DS to go to Grandma and Nan for 2 days, whisked me off to Paris to stay on the Champs Elysee and see Bruce Springsteen in concert followed by some shopping (mainly window unfortunately).

It was a lovely surprise and so what that he's out tonight watching the England game and will be out tomorrow night watching a charity game at Spurs... I'll just play my Bruce CDs really loud and sing along at the top of my voice.

wow! What a superstar he does sound, mckenzie.

Mo2 · 16/10/2002 21:07

My ds has my vote for this thread - last night, noting how knackered I looked, he sent me off to bed in the spare room and volunteered to do all the feeds for ds2 (10 weeks old) all night... then was up and took ds1 to nursery before going off to work this morning.

Mckenzie, I've got the MEGA HUMP now!! I had just about got over not being able to get tickets to see Bruce anywhere, then you tell me you were taken to PARIS!!!

(sulk, sulk, sulk!)

mckenzie · 16/10/2002 21:34

jodee, do you live near enough to Wembley to try your luck and see if you can buy some tickets outisde? We were amazed with the number of tickets being sold outisde the arena in Paris(for face value) and the number of empty seats inside. Sorry to have upset you but he was brilliant (as always). On stage for nearly 3 hours, played some from the new album but loads of old stuff aswell, Dancing in the Dark, Born to Run, Born in the USA, No Surrender, She's the One....... And he's grown his hair a little and looks really sexy..

McKenzie, don't tell me any more ... drool, drool! I can't believe he's 53, he's still got a great bod (I apologise now for my lustful thoughts, everyone!)

That's really interesting about the tickets - I'm in South London, so theoretically I could get there - I used to do that sort of thing in my single, pre-children days, I went there on the off-chance to see INXS when they were in their heyday and got great tickets on the night. Just got to find a babysitter now ...

I am glad you had a great time though, what a great husband you have!

SueDonim · 17/10/2002 03:09

Bah, I want to see Bruce too, sulk, sulk. No chance of him coming out to Asia, I shouldn't think.

Still, my DH is a good 'un too. I get all the lie-ins and he cleans and tidies and does the laundry and lots of other things.

Azzie · 17/10/2002 09:11

My dh does the Tescos run first thing every Saturday morning. If I'm really tired, he takes both children with him (this probably qualifies him for godhood....).

He's also very good about cleaning up cat sick .

Not as exciting as a trip to Paris to see Bruce, I admit, but very much appreciated!

glitterbabe · 17/10/2002 09:24

My DH is taking the day off work tomorrow to take eldest ds to school, and stay at home and entertain the youngest ds so as I can stay with my friend for a few days. Next weekend we have friends coming down from up north and he has booked tickets for the London eye as a surprise for them. To top that he has also booked tickets for the new musical 'Our House' and afterwards we are meeting up with some other friends for a meal at the 'Old Orleans'. He also does the weekly shop at Tescos and in return I iron his shirts.

Snugs · 17/10/2002 11:22

Praised my dh on the other thread before this one started but he deserves to have it repeated....

He works f/t but then does a fair amount of the cooking, cleaning, vacuuming, and laundry. He knows his way around the supermarket better than I do (as do the kids cos he takes them with him ). Nights are split 50/50 (tho thankfully both boys sleep pretty well now).

He takes the kids out every weekend (even if its just to his mums) so I get some time to myself.

And he does ALL the ironing (I don't even know which cupboard the iron is kept in ).

slug · 17/10/2002 11:31

My dh decided that he would rather stay at home with the sluglet than work. To afford this he liberated all the money he had put away for a rainy day before he met me and PAID OFF THE MORTGAGE!!!! (swoon)

I happily trip off to work and come home to a G&T, a cooked dinner and a happy child. Who cares if the house ain't clean.

Oh, and he has wonderful parents who are taking the sluglet nest week while we swan off to Estonia for a break on our own. I have died and gone to heaven.

Clarinet60 · 17/10/2002 12:54

You have indeed, slug.
Azzie, I think we'll have to get a cat.

Anyway, my day will come. When they're both at school, I intend to do a lot of swanning around having beauty treatments for those 5 hours a day. I'll still be working P/T. I'll get a cleaner. I'll get my own back. HA HA HA!

Tortington · 17/10/2002 14:01

think mine is schizo, i had to think whether to include him here cos he is such a nag and can be mean, but he does walk a fair distance to school from work and then from school to home and from home to school about three times a week with a daughter who whinges all the time! and then i think, he should do this - i didnt make 3 kids on mi tod did i!

but then i remember... he sometimes washes my hair, pulls my boots off, makes the best bacon butties with drizzled egg, he puts me to bed when i fall asleep on the setee, helps me undress and tucks me in.

but we had a row this mornin and i dont want to like him so am not thinkin of nice things today!

Tortington · 17/10/2002 14:05

got to add he colours my hair too and puts those silly little plastic gloves you get over his massive hands! he breaks them ans uses the worst language - every time! He's so funny...nuff of that - he's mean mean i tell myself mean he is gonna get what for later

SoupDragon · 17/10/2002 16:11

Pa! Well, I'm off to sob into my pillow in despair...

Bozza · 17/10/2002 16:28

Although I still struggle with DH can I praise my 20 month old DS. Last night he had one of those little packs of raisins in the living room. When he'd finished he toddled off into the kitchen and returned minus raisin packet. Thought nothing more of it, tidied away the toys did bedtime routine, watched football, ironed etc. DH then went to empty dishwasher (so he also has his good points...) and found a rather soggy rasin packet in the bottom. DS had put it in the dishwasher... Bless! I was quite amused/impressed at the logical way his mind was working - if its emptied of food it goes in the dishwasher.
