5 week old dd is my first. was a good sleeper until a week ago when started being unsettled between midnight and 2am. has resulted in co sleeping cos she'd only settle with me.

tonight started screaming at 11.30 and won't stop even when i'm holding her - like now.

have tried feeding, winding, infacol, cool boiled water, nappy change, adding layers, removing layers, rocjing, swaying, singing, ssshing, cuddling, leaving to cry, using dummy

am out of ideas and feeling desperate

please help

sometimes dd2 settled just being put in her car seat and i didn't even need to go as far as leaving the house. Or put her in pram and push back and forth inside?

they make it all worthwhile don't they!

Its such hard work. My DD is almost 6 mnths now. Luckily she never howled thru the night but we used to have hours of screaming from around 7pm -11/12 ish when she was your DD's age. There was nothing wrong (except she was tired & wouldn't/couldn't sleep)- sometimes its just what they do. Not that this helps you now but she just grew out of it. Sometimes the sling worked, sometimes singing (Morningtown Ride, Ally Bally & Molly Malone, IIRC)or playing a CD & rocking back & forth to it. Don't ask me why but Wild Side Of Life always used to stop her in her tracks, at least for few mins. Do you have any cheesy C&W in your collection?

slim22 · 13/12/2007 05:12

Awwwww bless!
hope you 2 get some sleep before next round!

silkcushion · 13/12/2007 05:16

jenny i have to go back we don't have any other option financially. dh has an exw and 2 other kids to support as well.

initially i felt annoyed at ahving to go back so early but in the last week i've changed my mind. don't think i'm cut out to be a sahm. think i might be ready to return in feb

tallullah i don't have an cheesy c&w - i will take her downstairs and raid the cd collection

well done mummy! keep singing and bouncing and breathe it out...
they say if you're calm they're calm

silkcushion · 13/12/2007 06:15

omg - we cracked it!!!! She's in her cot and not a peep for at least 5 minutes.

Please send baby Megan some stay asleep vibes. Mummy silk needs some rest.

That's my Thursday buggered then. We're meant to be meeting yoga friends at bumps and babes at 10 (which means leaving the house in 3 1/2hrs)and then out walking this afternoon with the ante natal mummies - might have recovered in time for that one. No chance of going anywhere this morning - need some sleep

If it's any consolation Ellie was a bit fractious between 3 and 6.....

Hope you've got some good rest now. Big hugs. xxx
