Image consultants, has anybody used them?

Well, after several years of abandoning myself to the pleasures of comfortable clothing, I feel is about time to do something to look a bit better. My wardrobe can almost be clasified as vintage and I find myself lost about new trends (I only see twenty-somethings in my life, but I feel a bit ridiculous to dress like that when my twenties are long gone) So, as I'm completely lost when trying to do any intelligent decision about clothing, I was thinking of using an image consultant.

I have checked Colour Consultants and The Federation of Image Consultants websites ... are they any good? does anybody know how much aprox. do they charge for their services? (I'm almost starting from 0, but being fair to myself I have lost a stone recently )

I'm right with you on this one. I'll be reading this with interest.

I got a colours session booked for my sister for a birthday pressie, she then went back for a longer one, my mum then went, and then I did.

It was quite good fun, my sister swears by it now, and gets her stuff from there I think.

I learnt that I should wear olive green and chocolate which I never did before and when I do people say I look nice I wore a new chocolate top to school this morning and a friend said "You look nice where are you off to?"

My mum has silver grey hair and was wearing gold glasses and jewellery but now has learnt to wear silver and platinium. So my dad has lots of ideas for pressies.

Oh that sounds promising!. Have you gone for the full course?

I don't know what you mean?

Chandra · 12/11/2004 23:41

I think Colour Consultants is offering 4-5 diferent sessions for a reduced price if you pay them all in one go(I think they include the colour consultation, make up, types of clothing that suits you, etc). Have you done that or the one where they try the colour swatches on you?

Did it with TESCO CLUB CARD VOUCHERS = 1 afternoon

swatches and make up done in womans home.

My sister went also for 1 day BUT that was quite expensive and I don't think was worth it. She told her what length skirt to wear, shape of dress etc.

So use your TESCO VOUCHERS IYSWIM.

One word of warning it is quite stressful as what ever you wear there is WRONG I opted for plain black then found out I shouldn't wear ALL black

As long as you know that it will be fun, take a friend/relative with you.

Also IF you have coloured hair it won't work as the colour will be false and so won't give true colours.

I was going to get a friend who colours her hair to go for hers but was told that she should come back when it had grown out.

Chandra · 13/11/2004 00:10

Well, well, would my natural colour roots would do? I was planning to have my hair done next week as they are so visible now (very embarrassing!!!!!!!)

Oh you get given a folder with the coloured swatches in so that when you go shopping you know what shade of green is right and which is wrong.

The only prob with that is I keep forgetting to take it but I know I am good with chocolate and olive green.

Funny thing is my mum used to put me in green so much I hated it until this but now realise it looks good.

Also DS is the same colour thing as me and he looks great in green and ORANGE but I can't bring myself to wear an orange T shirt BUT he looks lovely in them.

KangaMummy · 13/11/2004 00:17

The thing is I don't know if it would be worth it. what colour should you be and what are you dyed to????

if that makes sense?

Chandra · 13/11/2004 00:19

I have just send an e-mail to the consultant on my area (just before you mentioned about the hair colour). I'm going to the US in december and would like to have the consultation done before I go, hope my half coloured hair doesn't represent a problem (there's no way I'm going to leave the country with hair roots longer than this showing up!

Oops crossposted... well it was very similar to my colour (just some higlights) but has become lighter after some many applications. Would it work if I dye it back to my original colour?

tesco clubcard vouchers

KangaMummy · 13/11/2004 00:32

colour me beautiful

we had gold package thingy

BUT we did not pay that much money which IMHO is way too much

KangaMummy · 13/11/2004 00:33

I would check with them but yes that is what I would do otherwise the colours will be all wrong for your skin/hair colours.

merlot · 13/11/2004 00:34

I have also had my `colours done'. I found it really enjoyable and worthwhile. Whilst I already knew some of the colours that definitely didn't suit me there were some surprises - also when I wear something in one of my colour swatch colours, I often get lots of compliments

KangaMummy · 13/11/2004 00:34

we had it done it TUNDRIDGE WELLS KENT

merlot · 13/11/2004 00:36

Also, my hair is highlighted and there didn't seem to be a problem with the consultation.

KangaMummy · 13/11/2004 00:39

Did you find some of the colours so striking when you compared them?

EG which blue to wear and which not and then to see.

with me it was orange but like I said before I can't bring myself to buy and orange tshirt BUT a scarf is ok.

KangaMummy · 13/11/2004 00:41

perhaps it is because my friend was dark brown to alburn {sp} red brown ALL over colour. IYSWIM

merlot · 13/11/2004 00:46

Funnily enough, with me I was Spring/Summer (or something like that) so I cannot wear most yellows or any oranges/mustards. Dismayed to find that I should not wear black (but have to admit, charcoal did suit me better).

KangaMummy · 13/11/2004 00:54

I know it sound obvious but my mum looks so much better in platinium and silver jewellery and glasses it makes her look so much younger. She is 70.

She always wore gold before.

I am an AUTUMN so I can wear all my mums jewellery BUT so can my sister.

Were you wearing the right clothes when you went in, I had NO make up on as I knew it would be wrong anyway it all has to come off.

I watched my sisters one first.

Did you take anyone with you?

I had my mum and my sister.

Was yours colour me beautiful?

Did you use tesco vouchers BUT they have changed it now we had ours done several years ago.
