HI

I got caught in a 3 hour jam a couple of days and it has made me think about an emergency bag for the car. I already have a first aid kit and warm clothes. I always take food out with me and there are toys in the car.

Any thoughts other than water, torch, blanket, change of clothes for dd....

Old piece of carpet

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 12/12/2007 13:39

Ah! So really, you're not organised at all, you are most DISorganised, because you haven't unpacked from the summer yet! Love it!

Quadrophenia · 12/12/2007 13:41

am sure there is probably some mouldy cheese in the fridge aswell, I'm sure it will come in handy!!

moondog · 12/12/2007 13:43

lol at the Curlywurly.
Didn't know they still made them-I must have eaten my last in 1979.
(Do they still do Lion bars btw?)

gigglewitchyouamerrychristmas · 12/12/2007 13:44

MIL calls my car 'mobile mothercare' - so maybe it is unwise for me to give anyone advice

however, things that i would not wish to be without...
baby wipes (my children are not babies, but they're handy!)
shopping bags - the bag for life ones
we have ancient pay-as-you-go phone with credit for emergency calls
dd's travel-potty lives under passenger seat
our picnic rug doubles as blanket
petrol can
magazine stashed in glove box, tiny colouring book and pencils. anything will do when suitably bored

now you can't go shopping cos your car will be full of stuff

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 12/12/2007 13:47

They do Moondog! Curly Wurlys aren't quite as big as they used to be, but maybe I'm bigger! Also, its not the best choc to have in the car when its freezing really. One bite and tug on the toffee and the chocolate coating comes off in your lap!

nannyL · 12/12/2007 18:45

and a few coins

MerryAnnSinglemas · 12/12/2007 19:03

bottle to wee in

lemurtamer · 13/12/2007 12:57

Just before DS born I took to carrying special bag of several pound coins, as parking at hospital is so expensive. I kept this up in case of urgent visit to hospital necessary (not so urgent to need an ambulance) but I wouldn't want to mess around with parking in that instance. Obviously not on view but in handbag. Doubles up as emergency chocolate fund.

Spink · 13/12/2007 16:14

a shewee.. since reduced to peeing into my lunchbox. I was in a traffic jam in a road with tall hedgerows either side (nowhere to squat)

Ripeberry · 13/12/2007 20:06

Years ago i had a 1987 Vauxhall Astra 1.3l and it had a leak in the boot and the carpet used to have a lovely growth of...Mushrooms.
Handy if you felt a bit peckish .

Lilymaid · 13/12/2007 20:09

A bit of old carpet. If you end up on ice and tyres can't grip you can put this under car and tyres can then grip on carpet - yes we have had to do this in the past!

luciemule · 13/12/2007 20:51

ice cream tub with lid in case someone is sick.

potty for kids.

jammydodger · 13/12/2007 20:53

My mother keeps a dog lead in the car, in case she happens to drive past a stray dog. ..to stop hypothetical dog running into the road I think.
She's a bit of a nutter to be honest.

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 13/12/2007 20:54

I have a colour printer in case I urgently need to print some photos or a document.

southeastastra · 13/12/2007 21:00

soupy (it's you isn't it!?)

brake fluid
oil
those triangle bits of wood in case you get stuck
first aid kit
small lozenges

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 13/12/2007 21:02

It is indeed me.

I also have a valet stand in case I need to strip off and hang my clothes up, a good selection of books and an assortment of food items in various degrees of staleness.

It may be that I just need to actually get to the charity shop and hoover my car out though...

ChopsterRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 13/12/2007 21:06

my goodness nannyl, can you fit any people inyour car?

I've got a few nappies and wipes and that is it! (Nothing worse than sharing a car with a stinky toddler!)

amytheearwaxbanisher · 13/12/2007 21:15

nappies, juice, snack, toy and a change of clothes for ds.oh and wipes, tissue rag for defogging windows and a little emergancy money

serinsingingcarols · 13/12/2007 22:01

Last boxing day we got stuck on the M25 for nearly 3 hours (poor kids had already been sitting in car for 3 hours to get to the M25!).

DS1 wanted a wee and we had nothing for him to go in except a 2 litre bottle of water that was full...sooooo.......I helpfully drank all the water and he had his wee and 20 mins later who was desperate to go?????

DH was trying to drive but nearly peeing himself laughing at how thick I'd been!!

Now we carry

An empty bottle
First Aid kit
Baby wipes
Tissues
Waterproofs
Wellies
A toolkit (wouldn't know what to do with it like).
Whichever book i'm into.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 14/12/2007 00:00
