Hi,
One of DD's friends from nursery has invited her to her third birthday party. This is her first invite, how much am I expected to spend on a present?
Thanks

I personally wouldn't worry about what you're 'expected' to spend.
I would spend what I wish to spend, can afford to spend and think is right to spend.
For a child from playschool/nursery, I would probably spend between £5 and £10.

We have a £5 limit on presents in our groups of friends.
The other thing I do is buy a load of books from Book People (you can buy 10 children's books for £10 quite often in different offers) and keep them to give as presents throughout the year.

I would have thought around £5 as a guideline, don't go ott if you only know the friend through nursery and also if there will be loads of other kids there too.

I would use £5.00 to £10.00 as the norm as well.

Get a 'teaset in a tub' from Sainsbury's for £4.99.

Thanks everybody, £5 to £10 it is then.
McKenzie - Perhaps 'expected' was the wrong word. I just wanted to get an idea of other peoples experience.

oh. I must be a cheapie - I wouldn't spend more than a fiver

People I know stick to under a fiver for parties, except maybe up to a tenner for your child's very best friend.
