Moral dilemma over hotel booking ........ what would you do??

Ok i booked a hotel room last year at a v.nice hotel. I know they advertise late deals closer the time but didnt want to take the risk.

Anyway they are now offering rooms at about £60 less than I paid for the date I'm staying.

I can cancel up to 1pm the day before of my stay

So what do I do, should I cancel my room and re-book at the late rate? Will I be allowed to do this? Or should I get the other person staying to book in their name?

TIA

I don't think you'd be allowed to cancel and re-book in the same name, but I'm sure you could get the other party to do the booking in their name. I'd have no qualms about this.

Though I would get the other people to book first, then cancel your booking.

I would have no problem with getting the other person to book in their name.

Just be sure that you won't lose a deposit or anything.

(And get them to re-book it before you cancel your room, just in case they've managed to get themselves booked solid.)

Why not just call the hotel and ask for the reduced rate that is currently available? Or am I naive?

christmosschops30 · 10/12/2007 12:58

I only get charged if I cancel after 1pm the day before so could cancel now.

Agree its a good idea to wait until other person books and then cancel mine. There is a sister hotel close by so could book the other hotel just to cover up a bit more

Try earlybird's idea. If they say 'no' then get the other person to book at the better rate and cancel your booking afterwards.

christmosschops30 · 10/12/2007 16:12

have just looked at terms and conditions and it says

Rates already booked cannot be exchanged or transferred to the Late Availability offer.

So would you get the other person to book?

Problem is we are asking for an extra bed in the room, do you think they'll twig?

Hi

Most hotels are use to people asking for cheaper rates. (I'm a front of house manager) and the answer will be that was the best rate available at the time.

If you can get the new rate and there is rooms available book it as long as you are able to cancel your other room. Do not get stuck with 2 rooms to pay for.

Hotels are like airplanes. If you have bought the tickets and not used it you'd still get charged whatever the reason for not using (believe me i've heard lots of reasons). Check the cancellation terms on the new booking in case there is no way of canceling. Also check it is the same type of room. Have you had to pay a deposit? Will you get it back?

Have fun

Bums on beds (to paraphrase) will be their main concern, get your friend to rebook. Actually really what I'd do is see if there was a nice upgrade between the two prices and go for that - extra luxury for no more than you'd be paying anyway. Tis Christmas after all!
