Rug Doctor question. Ooh the thrills!

I need to clean my carpets and I am being good and not spending a fortune on having them done professionally by expensive company, and reluctant to have them done cheaply by odd bloke who creeps me out a little, so need to hire one of those rug doctor beasts. Last time I hired one they were the weight of an elephant so how do you clean upstairs carpets? Is there a really long house or do you have to heft the damn thing up the stairs. I can't remember and B&Q aren't answering their phone.

Anyone know?

You drag it upstairs...sorry!

But they are really good, the colour of the water when we did ours.....yeugh!

no long hose....strong husband!

Thanks. Strong husband won't be around that day sadly. I hate hate hate cleaning carpets but it has to be done as I've forgotten the true colour of the carpets...

Can anyone give me a rough idea of how long it takes to clean an average sized room please? I have a day off on Thurs but some of that will be taken up with school plays etc. I hope to do all the carpets and some of them are truly foul. How much d'you think I can get done in an afternoon?

It took me about four hours I think to do a thorough clean of three rooms downstairs and a less thorough clean of four bedrooms and bathroom upstairs. It was less thorough upstairs because I couldn't move all the furniture out of the way. My best tip is to make sure that all the rooms you want to do are tidy and hoovered, so that all you have to do is move the furniture and use the rug doctor. I find it a strangely therapeutic task. Emptying the dirty water is very satisfying

Oh yes... I'm looking forward to chucking out some seriously murky water

just been googling - and it seems that if you keep the rooms shutup then you can get a horrible smell in a day or two of wet carpet - (apparently not as much water as you think gets sucked out again) so if you can make sure you leave windows open to help it to dry out.
