Hmm... its a tricky one - I am also terrified of going to the dentist and havent been for years. Knowing how I feel - I would only go to a dentist if i could be put to sleep!! I know in my old town there were dentists that would do special appointments for nervous patients - I guess they sedate you or something - might be worth trying to find one

I had hypnotherapy for fear of the dentist - it worked really well - however I had admitted that there was a problem

I'm an hypnotherapist, and this is something that responds really well to hypnotherapy. If you go to a therapist, and tell him/her what the problem is, they will then, under hypnosis, discover what first triggered the phobia, and once confronted the phobia will disappear. Good luck

Tell your dh to explain to the dentist how he feels, they're used to nervous patients. I didn't go to the dentists for years, ended up with alot of pain and some serious problems - which I would not go through again. I now have a lovely dentist who is very kind and calming. He knows how nervous I was - 'yes' WAS I can think of nicer things to be doing but I don't get in a state like I used to!! I would NEVER want the pain I went through again - so now I never miss an appointment. Just tell him to find an uderstanding dentist - they're not monsters and it really isn't worth risking potentially serious problems over .
